Brady reportedly has additional procedures to fight infection
Poor guy. :(

Doctors are aggressively fighting an infection in Tom Brady's surgically repaired left knee, according to a report on the Boston Herald's Web site on Wednesday.

Brady recently acknowledged on his Web site that doctors went in "to clean and to test the wound" on Oct. 15 because of the infection. A source told the Herald that the New England Patriots quarterback has had two more similar procedures since then.

The same source told the newspaper that if the infection is not brought under control, the patellar tendon graft used to replace Brady's anterior cruciate ligament could become compromised. If that happens, he will have to undergo another surgery on the ACL. That would reset the clock on his rehabilitation.

Brady had surgery on Oct. 6, 29 days after he was injured in the Patriots' season opener, on a hit by Kansas City Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard. Brady reportedly tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in the knee.

1. Wow. I hope its not a staph infection.
IV antibiotics indicates it is a deep seated infection. :-(

2. This sucks, and what's up with all these infections...that kid who lost part
of his foot, and wasn't there someone else? I should ask, what's up with these hospitals?

5. I had surgery last February and
was SHOCKED at how many street people had access to the pre-op and post-op areas. Anything they touch (door knob, gurney) can easily be touched by a nurse and spread while cleaning a wound or changing a dressing. It still bugs the hell out of me.

7. And if you get an infection while in the hospital, the odds are it's
amazingly resilient...hence the needed surgery for Tom and apparently SIX weeks of antibiotics. Well, this country is falling apart, so why not the hospitals also?

10. That is the first thing that I thought also
...seeing as I am a nurse so i always think the worst. Locker rooms for the most part are just complete sewers so I can see that he would have gotten a staph infection from being in one.

3. You have to wonder about next season.
Obviously the most important thing is Tom Brady's health, but I'm curious to see how far back his recovery timetable has been pushed. These new setbacks have me wondering if he'll be 100% by the end of NEXT season.

4. My Wife Had Staph and MRSA
She recovered in a matter of weeks, and she's MUCH older than Tom. He'll get through this. Infections suck, but they're suvivable with the kind of access to medical care he has.

11. The other thing is
...you often see these guys treated more aggressively than the population at large.

13. I heard somewhere that someone close to Brady said
that its gonna take MONTHS to get this under control not weeks. And its possible his surgery may need to be redone as the grafted tendon may not work. Yeah..he's obviously got a long haul ahead of him.

8. The team will have to get over it if its really pissed. Tom
gets to decide who operates on him since its his body and his life after football.

9. I doubt that his concern was the quality of the doctor
but rather not having to fly all the way back to Boston for a procedure that, while serious, is relatively routine.

14. ESPN has shown that goddam clip of him being hurt a brazillion times.
I'm SO hoping for a fast, as fast as possible, recovery--if for no other reason than not to see that again.
