Fans of winless Bengals flood site with tickets, some below face value

Updated: October 14, 2008, 10:56 AM ET

CINCINNATI -- Disappointed fans of the winless Cincinnati Bengals are trying to unload thousands of tickets for remaining home games, many of them well below face value.

The online ticket agency StubHub.com has 3,000 tickets for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. At least 4,000 tickets are available for each of the remaining games.

Some sellers don't care about making a profit. There are $64 tickets priced as low as $24.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, more than 4,100 tickets are unsold for the Bengals' Nov. 2 game against Jacksonville, and more than 5,000 tickets are currently available for games against Baltimore, Washington and Kansas City.

The Bengals are 0-6 after losing to the New York Jets last weekend.

Longtime fan Steve Carr told the Enquirer it's gotten so he can't even bear to watch the team on TV.

"It's not worth it," Carr, a longtime fan, told the newspaper. "I was yelling at the TV watching that game" Sunday, a 26-14 Cincinnati loss.

1. I might have to buy some, then.
I've never seen an NFL game in person, they're just too expensive normally. But now, I might have to go to StubHub and get some.

Reminds me of an old joke, which I'll update:

A guy made plans with an old friend to finally see the Bengals play. He bought the tickets but accidentally left them on the dash of his car, where anyone could see it. When he realized what he'd done, he called his friend and asked him to check on his car, because he was tied up at the office and couldn't check himself.

A few minutes later his phone rang.

"Bad news, buddy. I got to your car and the window was smashed out."

"Oh no! Did they take the tickets?"

"Worse. They left four more."

2. Yea, you should definitely go. Who knows how long you'll
root for the Bengals before you switch to a team with better uniforms. HA

Good joke though, and very apropos in San Francisco.

I used those criteria to pick the Sonics when I was a kid!

Having stuck by the Bengals through several forms of awful stripes, not to mention Bruce Coslet, Carl Pickens, and the horror that is ownership by Mike Brown, I think I get SOME credit.

5. It's not easy...
Lord knows they give you LOTS of reasons to want to quit.

I will see Kimo von Oelhoffen's bulk careening toward Palmer's planted leg in my nightmares for years.
