Michael Vick faces potential drug charges; hidden compartment found in water bottle at Miami airport
This has the makings of a story that will linger, as a lasting joke attached to his career, if not a suspension, pending the outcome.

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/16484544.htm

"Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was reluctant to throw away his 20-ounce water bottle at a Miami International Airport security checkpoint Wednesday morning.

The reason, police say: The plastic bottle had a secret compartment that, when opened, had a dark residue and a pungent odor of marijuana.

Vick boarded his 8:20 a.m. AirTran flight to Atlanta before screeners called police. Now Miami-Dade police are examining the bottle and could charge him if it tests positive for drugs.

<snip>

Vick, 26, balked when security at the Concourse G checkpoint asked him to surrender his water bottle, which had an Aquafina label. Security regulations prohibit travelers from carrying bottles with more than 3 ounces of liquid through checkpoints.

Eventually, Vick left the bottle behind and went to his gate. But his initial reluctance to do so aroused the suspicion of Transportation Security Administration screener Gertrude Joseph. She pulled the bottle out of a recycle bin and notified her supervisor when she discovered its hidden compartment.

Screeners told police they recognized Vick as the pro football player, and they were certain it was his water bottle because they saw him throw it away and it was the only water bottle in the recycle bin.

<snip>

''The concealed compartment contained a small amount of dark particulate and a pungent aroma closely associated with marijuana,'' Miami-Dade Detective Kevin Kozak wrote in his report. ``The top half contained a small amount of clear liquid. When held upright the bottle appeared to be half full of water.''

2. A wealthy guy like him can't afford to throw away a small amount of dope?
Or he just had to have some immediately after he got to where he was going? :shrug:

4. Stranger that fiction....
...Here's a tasty morsel: Keith Olberman said tonight that Air Tran, the airline that Vick was boarding, has a spokesman for their company in Atlanta. That spokesman? Michael Vick!

Can't wait to see the billboard campaign for this one...

5. Ron Mexico is an absolute idiot.
Not only is he the most overrated player in the game, he's also dumb as a bag of hammers. Everyone knows you can't carry bottles of liquid on to a plane, yet this bozo attempts to bring one loaded with dope on board. Just foolish. Just keep your weed in your pocket and you're fine, no need for all this smuggling bullshit. He's a fool.

6. Like the wizzinator, the bottle was designed to cheat the law.
Kornheiser and Wilbon pointed that out on PTI.

What a maroon!

11. Indeed and that dumbass didn't even know how to do it right.
Marijuana laws are ridiculous so I have no problem with him smoking it or smuggling it but at least be smart enough to know how to use the circumvention devices. I often wonder about people like this with so much money. Why would you even carry it yourself? That's what your hangers on are for.

7. I remember when Vick was going to be the "Michael Jordan of
football". Thinking of another thread on this board, let me just say I hope Vince Young is paying attention.

I wonder what this does for Vick's future with the Falcons; he also has a reputation for being tough to coach. Are we looking at the starting QB for the 2008 Raiders?

Snyder could up prices to $300 and sell every damn one. Hampton Roads would empty every Sunday morning.

13. Vick will be gone within a year
Were it not for the salary cap, I think new coach Bobby Petrino would replace Vick with backup Matt Schaub.

Eventually Vick and his brother need to grow up. Combined with the whole Ron Mexico incident, Michael is showing incredibly poor judgment. I'm not often one to agree with ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd, but Mike Vick is beginning to look like a thug.
