Barry Bonds' post-trial hearing delayed till June 17
It will take nearly another month, maybe longer, for Barry Bonds to learn his legal fate.

The hearing to determine the sentencing date for baseball's all-time home run leader has been postponed from Friday to June 17. At that time, defense attorneys are also expected to file papers requesting that Bonds' conviction be overturned, while prosecutors will inform Judge Susan Illston whether they intend to retry him on the three counts in which the jury deadlocked.

In a case that dates back to his 2003 grand jury testimony, Bonds was convicted of obstruction of justice April 13. He was also tried on three charges of perjury but the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict on any of them.

Illston granted the parties' request for extra time to "evaluate the basis and need for post-trial motions, to evaluate witness availability in the event of a retrial, and to ensure counsel has the time necessary for effective preparation of post-trial and pre-trial motions in the event of a possible retrial.''
