Marlins trade Uggla to Braves for nobody..
The Atlanta Braves acquired All-Star second baseman Dan Uggla from the Florida Marlins for utilityman Omar Infante and pitcher Mike Dunn on Tuesday in the first trade of the general managers meetings.

Uggla, 30, has 154 home runs in five seasons with Florida. He's a two-time All-Star and just won his first career Silver Slugger award.

The Marlins elected to move Uggla after they were unable to reach an agreement with him on a long-term contract. He made $7.8 million this year, is eligible for salary arbitration and can become a free agent after the 2011 World Series.

This is sort of an odd trade by the Marlins. I mean, not only is it within their own division, but it doesn't look like they got much of anything in return.

I had been intrigued about the rumors linking Uggla with the Giants, but upon further review I'm glad that didn't come to pass. First off, he can't field worth a lick (-7.6 UZR), secondly his power numbers would drop considerably at AT&T, and thirdly he's going to demand some big money following this upcoming season.

1. The Marlins also gave up Cody Ross this year
And besides the fact they got next to nothing for Uggla, they gave him to a division rival. Beyond stupid.

2. I heard that the Nats were trying to get Uggla.
Wish they could have worked it out.

4. Seems like they could have gotten more for him...
... on the other hand, his defense may make an overpaid player in his money-making years.

For example, he had the same combined WAR (offense and defense) as Rickie Weeks last year. Chase Utley had a down year, and was still ahead of him, and Uggla never come close to Utley's WAR average, though he may come close in wages.

That said, it does appear that good second basemen are a bit rare in the NL these days.

5. Hmmm. So what would Hanley Ramirez cost a team?
