Eagles Name Vick Starting QB.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5601286

PHILADELPHIA -- Michael Vick has been named the Philadelphia Eagles' starting quarterback, a day after coach Andy Reid said it was Kevin Kolb's job.

It wasn't immediately known why Reid reversed his decision on Tuesday. The team announced the move in a text message, and Reid was to discuss it at a news conference later in the day.

Reid called Vick on Tuesday evening and told him he was starting. Vick was at a charity event. "It came as a complete surprise," a source close to Vick told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.

A senior Eagles official told Paolantonio that the decision to start Vick is "just a football decision, he is just playing too well."

Kolb missed the last six quarters because of a concussion, and Vick played well in his absence. Kolb was cleared to practice and was expected to run the first-team offense on Wednesday.

Shit. I was really hoping the Skins would be facing Kolb in two weeks. This move changes the complexion of the NFC East race.

1. I picked him up in both my leagues last week
thinking he'd be a good one week wonder, and he was.

Now I get the bonus of hearing he will start the rest of the year so now each week I get to decide between him and Romo in one league and Rivers in another. That's a pretty nice problem to have. Top it off with Mcnabb as another backup in my league with Romo and I appear set at QB for the season in both leagues.

2. I picked him up in my league too.
Too bad he'll only play when Peyton has a bye. May just dangle him as trade bait instead.

4. Proof Philadelphians are idiots...
at least when it comes to Vick...they're willing to overlook the heinous crimes of this murdering thug.

5. Actually I believe the headline, as well as the word "shocking" in the subhead,
Edited on Wed Sep-22-10 05:09 PM by KamaAina
was a reference to the said heinous crimes.

One wonders how long it'll take for the Giants, 'Skins or even (shudder) Cowpies to blare "Who Let The Dogs Out?" over the PA as the Iggles offense takes the field.

6. The guy did his time and lost many 10's of millions
I know it's not a very "American" attitude these days to give second chances (hence the world's largest prison system swollen with life sentences without parole) -but seems to me that guy paid a hefty price for his crimes.

8. How many other convicted felons
Could go right back to a million dollar paying job and even be involved with another crime ( shooting at birthday party- it's proven he lied about it) and get a promotion. He is getting opportunities that any other person in his position would get. That's what I'm objecting to- special treatment. I know I wouldn't be able to go right back to my job if I had been in jail. Getting special treatment cause you can play a game is nauseating to me.

10. Depends on what their profession was
So you think a contractor for example shouldn't be allowed to develop houses again?

A little harsh, don't you think?

9. Who exactly did he murder again?
I understand that people are pissed about the dog fighting and subsequent actions. As an ethical vegetarian I do not appreciate what he did to those dogs. I also do not appreciate what deer hunters do to deer. Or fishermen do to fish. I just find it kind of ironic that as people eat the flesh of animals that our culture thinks aren't cute and are suitable to be slaughtered for consumption, they rail against those that kill other animals that pass the "cute" test.

But murder? Seems overly hyperbolic even for you.

7. Hate the Vick as much as the next guy, but
...with Vick: PHI 27, JAC 17
...with Kolb: PHI 16, JAC 17.

Reid and the Iggles need to win games, so it seems like the right call.

12. "It wasn't immediately known why Reid reversed his decision on Tuesday."

Was he overruled by the front office? Or did he overrule them?

Either way, the reversal shouldn't have happened. Reid should have gone directly to Kolb and said, "Sorry, but Vick's playing with such a hot hand, I'd be an idiot to bench him right now." Then he could have said to Vick, "I'm going to leave you in for a couple of more weeks." That way, he wouldn't have looked like a flip-flopper, it would have helped Kolb maintain respect for him, and most important, should Vick falter, he could put Kolb back in with a clear conscience.

When I first saw the headline for this thread, I thought it was a typo.
