Giants, Jets sign bid to bring Super Bowl to NJ
Edited on Wed May-12-10 03:25 PM by brendan120678
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)—Blankets, seat-warmers and earmuffs could compete with hats and T-shirts as must-have Super Bowl souvenirs if the owners of the New York area’s two NFL teams woo football’s ultimate game to the region in 2014.

“We’ll be lucky if it snows,” Jets owner Woody Johnson quipped Wednesday at a news conference marking the official signing of the bid package that will be delivered to the league’s other 30 owners.

The theme of the new Meadowlands Stadium’s bid is “Make Some History,” and if the stadium is awarded the game, it will be the first Super Bowl to be played outdoors in a cold-weather locale. Miami and Tampa, which have hosted 14 Super Bowls between them, also are submitting bids. The owners will pick the Super Bowl site at the NFL meetings in Dallas on May 25.

Johnson, stadium chief executive Mark Lamping and New York Giants co-owners Steve Tisch and John Mara extolled the advantages of playing the game in the New York area, but they also acknowledged they will have to get other owners to revise their vision of the Super Bowl as a game that can only be played in bikini weather or in a climate-controlled dome.

2. They will never get it
because that will end the argument on why they don't have a real home team for the super bowl.

3. Dumbasses! This is a typical early Feb weather map

Breaking news: Super Bowl postponed. 1000's of people on the way to the Super Bowl are stuck at LaGuardia, Penn Station, and Grand Central Station. All transportation into and out of the city are shut down. The state of emergency is not expected to be lifted until late Tuesday at the earliest.

4. Good....bring the snow on!
God forbid some rich schmuck gets a snowflake on his Armani suit on the way to the expensive seats.

And if people will sit through the Ice Bowl they'll sit through anything.

6. The odds of getting 24 inches of snow on Super Bowl Sunday would be?
Bad weather never stopped the NFL before, it shouldn't stop them now. It's snow, not lava.

9. What are the odds of getting 48" of snow in the DC area in six days?
Just sayin. And the mayor for life in NY will shut down the city in a new york fucking minute, regardless of the super bowl.

The jests and ginats will play that superbowl in tampa!

Oh, and comdom says the big ten and the big east are merging and becoming the Big Tease. Why you ask? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. not that, just this....

Yeap.

7. It sounds like fun now, but just wait until cold and flu season
Seriously, I don't see any benefit to holding the Super Bowl where there's a possibility of playing in a snow storm.

The game is the story, not the weather.

Being able to watch offenses operate under good field and weather conditions is a lot more exciting football than a grind-it-out running contest -- especially in an international stage such as this one.
