1. I don't know why the Giants would want him
with the Red Sox, he hardly shut down anybody...seems to me the games he won was when Boston outscored the opposition.

Giants don't need a pitcher with an ERA of over 5.00

2. He hasn't been terrible, but he hasn't been great either.
He'll be going along nicely and then have that one inning where he gives up 3 or 4 runs. Anything over 5 innings is risking it.

If I was a GM I wouldn't be going after him, unless my pitching staff was really beat and I needed a guy to chew up some innings and just take the punishment, but SF isn't out of it by any means, and I can't imagine they're thinking it's time to rest their aces. SF's pitching staff is running out of gas a bit, and maybe Penny could take some of the load off, but the offense there isn't going to give him the help he would need to do them any good anyways. Pitching seems to be the least of their worries, and if they are worried about it there's about 29 other teams that wouldn't mind some worries like that.

3. Heard he doesn't want to be in the bullpen...too bad because he
might be ok there...he's 0-5 last five starts with about an 11 ERA.

4. That would be the only wise place to try to use him, imo.
And I'd hesitate to do even that with the races on the line now. Like I said, I suppose it depends on how beat up the pitching staff is. If you need a body, he's one. :)
