4. Eddie DeBartolo is the greatest owner in NFL history
during his time, the 49ers won 5 Super Bowls, put together the winningest decade in history, and altered the game with the invention of the west coast offense.

Without Eddie, there would gave been no Walsh, Montana or Rice...at least not in the way we know the names now. Eddie was the foundation for all the great 49er teams achieved...without him it would have never happened.

6. The West Coast offense would have come about from Walsh either way.
The guy was a football genius (and Belichick's biggest influence).

But as far as owners go, I'd have taken him in a heartbeat. Crook or not, when it came to that team he took care of them top class all the way. Kraft has been similar in some ways in how he runs the Patriots (that's a perfect setup for you, mim!).

And I'll even say that Jerry Jones doesn't really bother me as an owner. Most of them are dicks, and he's a bigger one than most, but at least he gives a damn about his team and does what he can to make them competitive on the field. After years as a Bruins fan where it seemed like the owners didn't give a fuck whether they won or not, and traded away the best players as soon as they got good, I was dying for a Jerry Jones to take over.

He wants to win so bad he can't keep his ignorant hands out of the pie...:eyes: (though he seems to be getting MINUTELY better)

8. That's the other side of the coin.
And that's where I think Jones goes too far sometimes.

Kraft basically lets Belichick and his staff handle all the nuts and bolts stuff about the actual team. He is hands on as far as the salary cap and the business side of things, but not when it comes to choosing the actual players or coaching ideas. I think that's the right balance.

9. I am waiting for a Jerry Jones type to take over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Hell, I'd even take Mark Cuban, which was the rumor a couple of years ago.

12. We Had The McCaskey's
They couldn't keep their noses out of it, AND they didn't really care about the team.

I'd take any of them over my team's "ownership". (Silverspoon twits, one and all.)

15. Bull! Clint Murchison was.
20 consecutive winning seasons from 1966-1985; by not interfering with his coaches and staff, Murchison did not create an atmosphere of second guessing and arguments over player selection or credit for the team's success. This has been a constant criticism of current Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
