Foxsports.com is keeping a live blog going all day, as they have all week.
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9875596/MLB-trade-deadline-buzz:-Friday's-edition

Looks like the Rangers are out of the running for Halladay.

Marlins still waiting to see if they get Nick Johnson. They've also asked about Heath Bell and Adrian Gonzalez.

Jarrod Washburn could also be traded today.

Post any updates you hear here.

1. Cleveland and Boston are working on a trade regarding Victor Martinez
Yet another Cleveland star going to a hated rival...

ESPN.COM, July 31 2009

The Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians were discussing a three-way trade Thursday night that would send Victor Martinez to Boston, Clay Buchholz to Cleveland and prospects flying in all directions, according to clubs that spoke to both teams.

The Red Sox also would attempt to move recently acquired first baseman Adam LaRoche, either to a third team or in a companion deal, to make room for catcher/first baseman Martinez in their lineup, one source said.

The Red Sox have spent several days working on parallel deals with Toronto for Roy Halladay, San Diego for first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and Cleveland for Martinez, but there were indications late Thursday and early Friday that they were making little or no headway with Toronto and San Diego, and that they were having trouble making the pieces fit with Cleveland.

A source suggested Boston would need the third team only to acquire Gonzalez because that would make LaRoche a nearly irrelevant part of their club. An official of yet another club said Friday that Boston would have to move LaRoche whether it acquired Gonzalez or Martinez.

"Either way," the official said, "they'd just need to dump LaRoche. Where would he play?"

14. I guess the plan would be to replace Varitek,
because you certainly wouldn't sit Youkilis.

Still, Sox fans should know Martinez is a bit fragile. That's why Cleveland has him play so much 1st base.

15. No, it would be LaRouche...and getting a catcher makes sense...
...next year will be Varitek's last probably, maybe one more after that, but that would be pushing it.

4. The Marlins need offense
After last night, we need someone who can get a hit when the bases are loaded. I think it's time for Jeremy to go bye-bye. He made the Not-Top-Ten list this morning on ESPN because of his bonehead play at first on Tuesday night. Thank God we won that game, because that play would have lost it for them.

6. yeah, I'm in full agreement that the time has passed
where we find out if Hermida is the next big thing. He ain't. I'd MUCH rather the Marlins pony up and get Adrian Gonzalez than often injured Nick Johnson. They've got a stockpile of prospects, time to spend some of them, even if it's just a 3 month rental.

But where would he play?? We've already got Jorge, Helms and Gload at first, Is Johnson an OF, too?? Adrian Gonzalez would be my pick, though. Please Marlins do something. We are only a few games out right now and I think we just need 1 more player

5. Latest from Sox Blog
11:14 a.m.: The Globe's Tony Massarotti just checked in to report that according to well-placed baseball source, the Red Sox and Padres are continuing discussions this morning about Adrian Gonzalez. It is unclear which Red Sox prospects the Padres are pursuing, but considering that San Diego lacks depth in its farm system, there is the possibility that the Red Sox could supply San Diego a collection of players while hanging on to some of their elite prospects.

* * *

11:02 a.m. Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi is sending out signals this morning that he doesn't expect the Jays to deal Halladay. When asked via text by Yahoo! Sports's Tim Brown whether " club had rallied into his consciousness, Ricciardi texted two words: “Nothing going.” And the New York Post's Joel Sherman tweeted this response from Ricciardi: "I would say it is highly probable that he (Halladay) is a Blue Jay (at 4:01 p.m. today)."

Yahoo! Sports's Gordon Edes reports that the Red Sox have dealt Adam LaRoche to the Braves for first baseman Casey Kotchman. Kotchman, 26, is batting .282 with six homers and 41 RBIs this season. LaRoche spent the first three years of his career with the Braves. He was acquired by the Red Sox on July 22 from the Pirates for a pair of prospects.

HRs and OBP. Now that the HRs have mysteriously disappeared, you're left with defending one over the other...very telling.

Btw, nice loss tonight by the Mets...they get the DP, looks like they're going to get out of a big jam and the very next pitch is a wild one allowing the winning run to score. That's the sort of thing losing teams do..and that's why the Mets didn't deal for a Nick Johnson, because their season is all but over.

59. As usual you don't know anything about baseball
David Wright has been robbed of 8 homeruns by CitiField that would have been out at shea stadium. That would give him 14 on the year thuse far. He would be on pace for about 28 HRs right now.

Right has always had a good OBP.

He's always hit for average.

He always draws a high amount of walks.

He's still one of the best third basemen in the game today.

OBP percentage trumps power. That's something you will never get though your skull cause you're a douche.

60. More excuses
injuries, Citi Field's too big....what'll it be next? :nopity:

Sandoval plays in a big park and opposing teams often pitch around him but he still has good power numbers. That's the mark of a REAL All Star.

I could care less how many walks little Davey has...a good hitter will put up good numbers in both the OBP AND the power categories.

Oh, btw, I see Wright is now up to 96 strikeouts...only 23 more to go before he sets a career high. I was going to ask you what you think about that, but then I remembered...you have an excuse for that too.

61. Really
Why does Sandoval have an OBP pf .372?

It probably lower now cause chubby went 0-4 tonight and his average dropped to .327.

Oh, and Wright has scored more runs than fat ass too with fewer HRs this season.

Explain that?

Oh, I'll do it for you. Chubby is not a good hitter. Wright has more than double Chubby's walks.

You fail.

Oh, and Chubby is taking on the physique lately of juicer. Wanna see some photos of him in spring training? He didn't have nearly as big of a set of tits as he does now.

47. He also traded Jason Bay
I just can not believe he didn't acquire Nik Johnson. He honestly believes that Delgado is going to come back from Laproscopic hip surgery at his age and make a difference.

Johnson could have been had for a B-/C+ level prospect. AND THE NATS WOULD HAVE PAID HIS SALARY.

Wilpon better be strongly considering canning this guy.

46. And he said he didn't want to leave the NL...
...backa couple months ago...wonder if he'll be a pain and not try...not assuming, because I know little about him, but I do know he probably isn't happy about it.

50. Nats Joe Beimel to Rox
DENVER - The Colorado Rockies hope they've found the left-handed relief they were searching for at the trade deadline after completing a trade with the Washington Nationals on Friday.

The Rockies acquired 32-year-old Joe Beimel at the deadline, sending minor leaguers Ryan Mattheus and Robinson Fabian to D.C.

Beimel, who pitched out of the Los Angeles Dodgers' bullpen in 2008, was reportedly coveted by the Rockies throughout the offseason, but ended up signing with the Nationals just before spring training.

In 2009, Beimel has posted a 1-and-5 record with a 3.40 earned run average in 45 games. He has 45 strike outs to go with 15 walks.

The Rockies needed a left-handed specialist to come out of their bullpen after Alan Embree, who was filling that role, suffered a broken ankle after being hit with a line drive. Since then, the Rockies have experimented with Franklin Morales in the role, who had previously only worked as a starting pitcher during the regular season.

Beimel could help fill that void as left-handers are hitting only .233 (14-for-60) against him in 2009.

Only one member of the Rockies' Opening Day bullpen remains on the current roster: Huston Street, who has 26 saves in 27 opportunities.

Neither Mattheus nor Fabian was listed in the Rockies top 30 prospects prior to the 2009 season, according to Baseball America. Mattheus had been working out of the bullpen for the AAA Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
