Lincecum enjoys night despite nerves
"I'll be honest with you, I was feeling a lot of nerves out there," Lincecum said. "First All-Star Game for me. There was a lot to take in, but I was just trying to have fun and go out there and enjoy it."

After President Barack Obama delivered the ceremonial first pitch to Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, Lincecum got ahead of the first two batters he faced with an 0-2 count. But the 25-year-old right-hander allowed Ichiro Suzuki to deliver a leadoff single and take second base when a 1-2 fastball rode in and struck Derek Jeter's left hand.

Joe Mauer followed with a dribbler in front of the plate that would have been a double play had Mets third baseman David Wright's throw not pulled Pujols off the bag. Pujols' inability to field a Mark Teixeira grounder allowed Jeter to score from second base with the game's first run.

Tim was nervous, that's not a big surprise...still he would have gotten out of the inning without giving up anything if his defense had done their job.

Tim, despite his nervousness, would have been ok...but his defense let him down.

3. Let's see--- he hit Jeter--- who eventually scored
and he didn't get over to 1st quick enough to turn the double play.

You're a douche.

6. Yeah..he hit Jeter
but, if David Wright knew how to throw, he would have had a DP on the next ball hit by Mauer. He then should have been out of the inning on the Teixeira ground ball to Pujols but as we all know he flubbed it...Tim's perceived slowness to cover first, and it's doubtful they would have gotten Hamilton anyway, should have never come into play.

7. I've already admitted he was nervous
however, you can't dispute the fact that he still would have escaped unscathed if not for Wright and Pujols.

8. He shouldn't have hit Jeter? Agree
Did Jeter score? Yes he did... Would he have scored if he didn't reach base? No he wouldn't have.

9. Jeter wouldn't have scored anyway
with an accurate throw by Wright and a simple fielding of a ground ball by Pujols. That's what the defense is out there for..

10. Really--- and you can say that for sure?
He most certainly wouldn't have scored if your boy didn't put him on base.

Would you agree?

11. Yep..I'm fair
I'll agree with that part..Tim was nervous, I think he was trying to throw a curve when he hit Jeter..he usually has great control with that pitch and all his pitches for that matter. So it was easy to tell he wasn't himself.

Still though, for all that, Jeter shouldn't have scored. In fact, that was the difference in the game, the AL defense made the plays, the NL defense didn't.

13. Yeah..but
Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 09:17 AM by Upton
Wright's throw led to at least 1 AL run and would have been an error, excepting that you can't assume a DP... Crawford's catch took away an NL run...and Justin Upton misplayed (turning the wrong way) Granderson's fly ball into a triple, leading to the AL's winning run.

15. Tim got rattled when he lost his no-hitter in San Francisco last week ..
going on to give up 3 earned runs I think.

Yea, so I think he has a tendency to get really nervous and distracted (as he admitted about the A.S. Game, and completely understandable).

But here's what's scary for baseball:

I think he will only get better once he's able to control his nerves.

In fact, once he's able to do that, it may be unfair he's allowed to compete in the major leagues! LOL

24. Yeah..he's listed
at 5'11" 170 but I think that's stretching it. Other teams, I know the Mariners for a fact, supposedly passed on him in the 2006 draft (he went 10th) because they felt he was too small. So far he's proving them wrong.

17. I don't think it's the least bit ironic Charlie Manuel's name card is
shown as part of your "he's a bum post."

And if your Rockies player had hit a home run, the Giants would have home field advantage in October.

Looks like we're going to have to kick your guys' ass next time we play.

I apologize in advance.
