An open question to believers in the Rapture.
How many deaths would it take, to convince you that Jesus isn't coming back?

It's estimated that over

62 million

people lost their lives as a consequence of World War 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties#Combined_total

If that isn't enough, what is? NO :sarcasm: intended!

9. The Rapture took place, on time and under budget
The Revelation of St. John is not a prophesy; it is a first hand account. We are the descendants of those who were left behind.

3. I think you're a little confused
the rapture, which is more of a modern concept and has no credible biblical provenance, has nothing to do with Christ's return, two separate things, actually.

I personally don't think the rapture, as conceptualized, is believable.
The return of Christ, however, I choose to believe that will happen, at the endtimes.
As to the real meat of your question, which is a different way of restating the endlessly asked question:
How can God allow suffering?
Or, as you restate it, why didn't Jesus already come back, since there is a lot of suffering and death in war.

As opposed to whacko fundies, I find nothing in the bible that implies that wars will cease or that wars will kill a magic number before his return, Only that war and rumors of wars will continue like always.

The real pertinent question about war is not why God allows it, but why man does.

7. This should be a signature line
"The real pertinent question about war is not why God allows it, but why man does."

Bravo

8. Interesting
As I do not believe in the Christian God, I would agree with that sentiment. It's up to us to solve our problems, not some bearded man in the sky, or whatever your vision of God happens to be. If that God really does exist, he's shown by now that he's not interested in solving our problems.

5. You may be in the wrong place
I don't recall anyone in this forum professing a belief in the rapture. I would be slightly surprised to see that.

6. Deaths Have Nothing To Do With Belief
Edited on Mon Aug-07-06 05:29 PM by Southpawkicker
about Jesus coming back or a rapture (edited to include "or a rapture")

don't consider myself a "rapture believer" as I tend to think that the rapture is a theory woven together from a number of scriptures in order to justify what apparently came from a young woman who was in a state of delirium and had a "vision" about it.

Now if a rapture happens, I will be surprised.

But back to your question, which I think is about how God could allow all these people to die.

There have always been wars. Humans seem to kill humans without much thought, and do it often.

That has nothing to do with God or Jesus that I'm aware of.

Additionally, I don't know that death is the worst thing that can happen to one (we all die) what really bothers me is the torture, the terror, the horrific things that are done to people (sometimes in the name of God or some AKA name)

But again, those are things that humans do to humans, and also with frequency, and without a lot of thought sometimes. (other than how to justify it-see the * administration, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler, etc.)

So, again, I am still believing in God, and that God will return (as I don't believe God left) again and again
