Family Radio Founder Harold Camping Repents, Apologizes for False Teachings

(I am not sure why the link below goes to a 404 Page Not Found screen. Pasting it into the browser address bar seems to work fine. Try the main christian post site, http://global.christianpost.com/ and look for the story there)

With his speech sounding somewhat slurred and labored, Family Radio Stations Inc. founder and chairman Harold Camping sought to address in a recent message why Christ failed to return on Oct. 21 as the Bible teacher had predicted. Camping confessed, after decades of falsely misleading his followers, that he was wrong and regrets his misdeeds.

In addition to attempting to correct his erroneous teachings on the Rapture and God's day of final judgment on the world, Camping, 90, also confessed, "incidentally," that he was wrong to claim that God had stopped saving people after May 21 – the date which God's so-called "spiritual" judgment had begun.

This is undoubtedly a radical shift for Camping, who has staunchly claimed since 1992 that he had discovered a special numerical system in the Bible that allowed him to calculate the exact dates of certain events, such as the Great Flood, the Crucifixion and the day of Jesus Christ's return to Earth.

Wow, he admitted he made it up. He goes on to admit that"...(god)allowed everything to happen the way it did without correction. He could have stopped everything if He had wanted to."

Color me surprised.

2. He's 90 years old
and knows people will have to sue his estate at this point.

I really do feel sorry for all those desperate people who bought into his bullshit and sacrificed everything to traipse around the country in billboard trucks.

He hurt a lot of people. He knows heaven aint his final destination.

3. What separates those that gave everything to Camping, and those that give money to church?
The total amount? I mean, fleecing is fleecing, right? Be it $5 or $50000000, its still taking peoples money.

13. You're asking me?
Seriously, one of scale. Camping's followers quit jobs, walked away from homes and occasionally family, giving everything up at once.

I've always had an unsympathetic view of organized religion, saying the giveaway was the verbiage about the pastor and his flock: he cares for his flock because it makes them easier to fleece.

5. Well crap. Teach bs for decades and collect money on the basis of false teaching and you you are
just going to say, "Never mind!". I am sorry Harold but that doesn't cut it.

6. Did he have a stroke and perceive it to be the unfriendly hand of God smiting him for his bullshit?
Wouldn't surprise me if that were the case and that is what he believed. He's no spring chicken, after all.

This, I suspect, is self-interest at play. He's afraid of getting to the Pearly Gates and being directed by Good Saint Peter to the elevator bank marked "DOWN ONLY."

Fear is probably the only thing that's at least as powerful, if not more so, than greed can be for some folks.

Or maybe he just watched the Madoff interview and felt a pang of guilt for his deception and felt the need to unburden himself.

FWIW I could not get your link to work. Don't know if it is just me or another issue.

11. It's a good start. Hopefully he takes the error to heart
Maybe he'll extrapolate this lesson to other things he takes to be true on similar or lesser evidence.

12. I have a dream where Bush Sr. is riddled with guilt and lays everything out while he's still here
Where he atones for his crimes against humanity and confesses to everything before he meets his maker.

Everything from the Kennedy and King Assasinations to the Iranian hostages to Colby's murder to the coup of 2000 and beyond . . .
