CBC: Gluten hosts concern parishioners
The Roman Catholic Church needs to do more to accommodate people with celiac disease who can't eat gluten hosts offered during mass, says a Canadian Celiac Association official.

The health of people with the digestive disorder can be hindered from eating gluten, but the church says a communion host without gluten isn't considered bread, and therefore isn't the body of Christ.

Brian Marcipont, president of the P.E.I. branch of the association and a celiac sufferer, misses getting the thin, round host at his church in Summerside, P.E.I.

"As a Catholic, it's part of the mass," said Marcipont.

3. LOL. I thought the host literally became the body of Christ through transubstantiation. Now ...
we learn the host is just another piece of bread.

13. No, no, no--you don't understand
It has to be made from flour with gluten, otherwise the magic doesn't work. Of course the host becomes the body of Christ. It just doesn't work if the wafer doesn't have gluten in it.

4. Here again we see the crushing legalism of the Church.
They have to follow their own rules at all costs, regardless of how stupid and pointless they are. This also belies their claim that they literally believe it to be the flesh of Christ. Human flesh doesn't contain gluten.

7. They'll cover up for and relocate child-raping priests...
but by golly, those goddamn gluten-intolerant folks are just asking them to go too far!

12. What's funny is, when it's stupid and childish, they'll follow those rules to the bitter end.
But when it actually affects them, they'll break the rules. Example: Mother Teresa is only credited with one miracle, but you need two to become a Saint. Setting aside the fact that her supposed "miracle" is laughably easy to disprove, why not just make her a fucking Saint? Would some eternal cosmic plan be put to waste if they just called her a Saint? It's just a word. They're so bound up in their own pointless rules that sometimes, you really just have to step back and go, "Wow."

OTOH, there is at least one recorded case of the RCC paying for an abortion for the victim of a Priest. (A teenage girl in Philadelphia, in the 70s, I think.) When it serves their purposes, they'll even allow abortion, which is what they bleat about the loudest.

15. Even if there were a god, I cannot for the life of me imagine...
that it would even BEGIN to care what you make your cracker out of.

Yeah, you gotta step back and say, "Wow."

5. with things like this and Catholics writing the rules for communion...
they really prove that communion doesn't mean anything. It's more about their control than anything about Christ.

Some Gluten Free people have brought this up with our local Priest who just said they can't take the "bread" wafer thing but they can still come up and get blessed during communion time.

The funny thing about communion is that in the rules for who and who cannot take communion:

http://www.catholic.com/library/Who_Can_Receive_Communion.asp

Is that they point to scripture for everything except for calling about people who support abortion specifically. So...they think the Bible isn't perfect and that they can put words in Jesus' and Paul's mouths? ha ha

Jesus didn't turn away any of the sinners at the first communion so them doing anything different is sacrilege.

16. Yes, they get the snack wafer from one person and the wine from another
so he told them instead of the snack wafer he would just bless them and then they could get the wine.

9. Some priests think differently
and do give out these hosts. They are the older, more moderate to liberal ones. Any conservative ones eat this kind of rejection up. :puke:

14. The bread turns into flesh of Jesus
so there should not be a problem with people eating it. If there is a problem then the bread does not really change.
