1. I'd ask him or her to prove it.
If they do something miraculous, I take them seriously. If they don't, I call the men in the white coats. (and I don't mean a flock of angels)

3. Your wording rules out the possibility that the individual in quesiton is God.
If Jesus was both the son of God and God AND he's supposed to return someday, then there should be the possibility that a person claiming to be God might actually be whom they claim to be. Same goes for any of the other ancient gods that were capable of appearing as humans.

The 2nd option seems to follow if the person in question was divine, but your question is worded in a way that precludes it. It sets the premise that they 'think' that they are god, nothing more. Why not "how would you react if you met someone who claimed to be God?"

5. I was actually motivated by Christa's recent thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=214x217728

The actual claims made by Jesus of Nazareth in this respect seem unclear to me; although one hears the assertion made definitely by others, Jesus may have been rather more ambiguous. The gospels admit various readings in this regard. Coupling sayings, like "Whatever you do to the least, that you do to me," with the curious stories in which friends of the resurrected Jesus do not recognize him, suggests a G-d resembling the king in the ancient fable, who disguised himself as a beggar in order to get a better view of the affairs of his realm

6. All Israel was the "Son of God"

possibly all humanity.

Exodus 4:22, God declares, "Israel is my first-born son."

It was not an exclusive or singular claim.

11. I'd congratulate him or her
on the great job she/he did with Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc. If there is a god, it's definitely the angry, vengeful asshole of the old testament.

15. Depends which g-d we were talking about I guess.
So why is it blaspheme to type "God" but it's not to type a euphemism that means the exact same thing?

17. A lot of religions seem to think that God is within all of us.
If that's the case, then we're all God.

18. So, a not so stupid reaction would be
to ask in reply: "If you are God, does it in your view imply that also I'm God?"
