1. Why isn't God striking down these people when they attempt to violate his property?
The people are despicable with their actions.

There would be less church related vandalism and other crimes if religion was eliminated.

It's all part of the plan.

Atheists/satanists are obviously to blame.

You know, because christians would never vandalize churches.

8. Be reasonable, now
I'm sure you can't imagine why Christian kids would have any reason for hating priests. And it's not like kids vandalise secular buildings. These are obviously minions in PZ Myers' vast tentacular conspiracy.

10. So? It happens all the time. Churches often have money in them.
People break in to see if they can get the offering money or anything they can pawn off to get money. It happens all the time. It's not so much anger at the church, though that might be part of it, but a symptom of how bad the economy's getting.

Or could someone who paints "KKK" on a black church perhaps have motivations other than critiquing Christianity?

15. While you're on the case
Find out who tagged my garage door last month. If you catch them they're going to art school, because what they did was worse than a crime, it was an embarassment. That same old stupid balloon sculpture style, I'm sick of looking at it. Maybe together we can beat some creativity into these hoodlums, make churches safe for real art again.

Thanks for your consideration.

25. That kind of crap happened when I was a kid.
Graffiti and broken windows are common in theft, no matter who's the victim. Obscenity makes sense considering it's a church and most vandals are younger and think that's funny. As for the KKK, that's a bit odd but not unusual, especially if you consider the church population.

Schools are common targets for the same reason. I'd also guess churches are the least likely buildings to have video surveillance.

14. Kids, I swear...
How many of these vandalism incidents were done by former members of the church? Members that got pissed off about something that happened while in the church?

Also, how many of these were done to gain sympathy and to point the finger at everyone else but themselves? Self induced injury, by people who are current members of the church? I do not put it past a congregation to do such things, even going as far as to burn down their church.

These could also be random acts of vandalism and nothing more.

28. The snippets appear to show some childish vandalism, some petty burglary and larceny -- and a few
possible hate crimes

I notice you provide no evidence, to support your suggestion that some of these were the acts of "former members of the church ... pissed off about something" or that the acts were "Self induced injury" and "done to gain sympathy." Such unsupported accusations really shed no useful light on much, except your prejudices

16. I'm not sure what this means.
Are these instances of vandalism an indication of an increase, or a decrease? Is it a world-wide, a national or regional reporting? What were the number of vandalisms to churches that occurred at this same time last year? How many vandalisms aren't reported? Is there a difference between the number of Catholic vs. Protestant church vandalisms? How does vandalism to churches compare to say, secular buildings? Public property? Billboards? Synagogues? Buddhist temples? Why are we only looking at church vandalism? Is vandalism to churches more important than to other buildings?

Without more information or at least a base number from past church vandalisms, I can't tell if the trend is going up or down.

And the primary question I have is: what was the vandal's intent? Can we know what the intent of the vandals is, from the number of vandalisms reported? Just who are these vandals?

Could they be disgruntled former employees of Catholic Churches who were laid off due to the losses of revenue which have gone to pay for priest pedophile settlements? The former priests themselves? Their former victims? People who just don't like Pope Ratzinberger?

Since it appears that quite a few of these cases remain "unsolved", how can we know that its not the priests and/or preachers themselves in some kind of twisted plea for sympathy? And of those who were caught, what did they say was the reason for their acts? Mad at god? Hate god? Don't believe in god? Bored?

- And the main question: was attendance up or down after the vandalism???

I often wonder if, once we're gone, "American" won't come to hold the same connotation.
