Should we start paying mothers who have abortions?
The pressure is on us all with the need for more oil in the news every day. We have to spend a lot on the military to maintain access to "our" oil which happens to be under someone else's homes.
There is also a need for more and more food production as the world population increases. We need to cut more forests and take more fish from the sea. Every resource continues to face a greater demand.
Would it not be cheaper, simpler, more sensible, and even more humane to start paying women a bonus for up to three abortions in their lifetimes?

2. Ummm... wouldn't sex ed and birth control be a better option?
Your post HAS to be a joke, right?

4. Not a joke
I'd like to see us make a major, serious effort at getting those two available first. But we still need to consider the effects of continued population growth. It would be better to support birth control and abortions than keep up the policies that lead to starvation and wars.

5. my guess would be that it is a post designed...
to draw an affirmative response so that the affirmative response can be broadcast to the world at large.

3. No - for obvious reasons.

8. Why is here?
I think the major political force behind banning abortions comes from people who believe abortion goes against their religion. As much as the discussion is about society, politics, or personal preferences, abortion has become a religious issue.

14. My feeling on it has nothing to do with religion, and I'm a Christian.
It has everything to do with grade school (high school?) science.

7. This is possibly the dumbest idea I've ever heard.
Put aside everything else, and consider only one thing: why wouldn't a woman just *intentionally* get pregnant three times to collect her bonus? And then go on with however many children she wants to have?

9. Intentional pregnancies?
If you've ever talked with someone who has had an abortion, or had one yourself, I think you'd find out it is a terrible experience. While someone might get pregnant and then have an abortion just for the money, I doubt that many would do that.

10. Why do you think abortion is a "terrible experience"?
It's safe, surgical, and hopefully a choice made by a woman to control her own body.

12. It's not a joyride.
That's one thing the original poster and I can agree on.

However, if someone started paying women to have abortions (which is what the poster's idea comes down to), I'm sure they'd be willing to have two or three. Money is a powerful motivator, especially to people who don't have any.

16. Well, I never said it was a joyride.
No surgical procedure is without risk, nor does abortion come without personal reflection (for most women). But I just don't see how it would be "tragic" enough to defer women from intentionally getting pregnant to have those abortions and get paid for it.

Sorry. :)

13. Terrible experience
I have talked with women who have had abortions who have said it was a terrible thing to do. I would never assume that someone would have an abortion without good reason.

20. over and over??
You make a good point but, it certainly would not be a "joyride" to go through childbirth either, unless the child was wanted.

11. Obviously, you're a man.

Being in a situation where you even consider abortion is not fun.

And it wouldn't be cheaper or simpler--for one thing, married people with no children, and single women who have never been pregnant would want to know where their $$$ is for "saving resources".

I suspect you posted that in this forum for the last comment I have, which is that multiple abortions are neither humane to the aborted fetuses or the woman's body.

I'm heavily censoring myself.

17. You are correct, I am a man.
I agree with you that any abortion is one too many. But we still have to deal with the consequences of population growth, like starvation and wars.
