Share Print Font: +-Bristol Palin was worried about how she was going to tell her mother that she’s engaged to marry Levi Johnston, the father of her 18-month-old son.

She solved the problem by telling a popular celebrity weekly.

“We got engaged two weeks ago. It felt right, even though we don’t have the approval of our parents,” Palin told Us Weekly magazine in an exclusive story published Wednesday.

The magazine cover features a photo of a smiling Bristol and Levi with their son, Tripp. Inside, Bristol admits that she and Johnston had not told her parents, Sarah and Todd Palin, about the engagement.

“It is intimidating and scary just to think about what her reaction is going to be. Hopefully she will jump on board,” Bristol told the magazine. “I want her to know Levi has grown up and that he is going to be there as a dad.”

‘Redemption and forgiveness’
In a statement to NBC News, the Palins said, “Bristol at 19 is now a young adult. We obviously want what’s best for our children. Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.”

Indeed, in the wake of Johnston’s recent retraction of blistering comments about the Palins and apology for making them, Bristol told People magazine: “I forgive him for what he did. He was young, mad, misguided. We’re moving on.”

4. Yep-the signs grow that she's running in 2012

And at this point, I think she is the presumptive nominee. As you can tell, I badly want her to be the nominee so she can implode. lol.

10. Imagine the mobs that would follow her if she were running for president
They would put the Palin/McMcain mobs to shame

6. Anyone Else See The Irony Here?
Forcing two people into marriage, that neither want to be in, just for political reasons.

And yet, this same family wants to deny people of the same sex, when they really do want to be married, the right to be married also for political reasons.

8. I'll believe that when I see it
but I wish them both the best. Really. I can't imagine starting out behind the eight ball with families like theirs. Ugh.

I watched the Kathy Griffin show in Wasilla yesterday, at least part of it. Johnston doesn't strike me as a bad kid, just an average, incarticulate teenager who prefers to communicate with gestures and grunts. He's got potential, in other words, if he manages to get the hell out of Wasilla and away from his inlaws.

Good luck to them, together or separately. They're going to need it.

9. Smart move by Levi.
He gets out of paying child support & jumps on the Palin gravy train. Now maybe he, Bristol & the baby have a chance if they move as far away from Caribou Barbie as they can.

11. Sarah Palin has resigned to the news.
She's good at that.

12. Sarah Palin to Levi: "Drill, baby, drill."
I suppose that means she gives consent.
