1. I emailed Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, who were responsible for Hikaru's U.S. success...

...and encouraged them to work with Seiko Matsuda. Terry replied and said "I've heard of her, I will have to look into her music."

Seiko had the "Was It The Future" album in the U.S. but it was produced by Robbie Nevil, who also wrote most of the songs, and has always been considered a very minor talent in the U.S.

She followed up that album with "Area 62," with Nevil involved again (but not exclusively) and the album was a sad attempt to copy Kylie Minogue's smash success with "Fever."

Hikaru was smart. Seiko, not so smart. But I still love most of her Japanese releases...except for her regrettable period with Shinji Harada. He was just awful, and while most long-time Seiko fans remained loyal to her and her music (buying CDs, attending concerts), on the Web, they were very direct in saying that they did not like Harada at all. They celebrated his departure.

Of course, Seiko is famous for making occasionally bad decisions...in both her personal and professional life.
