"Flush" is his young-adult follow-up to "Hoot" and just came out last week.

I'm reading it and enjoying it thoroughly. More eco-madness in South Florida. Every bit as good as his adult fare, just no swearing and a little less edge.

 so far!

8. I never would've thought that, myself.
I'll have to read that.

2. Well...then if you recommend it, I shall get it!
I saw copies of it at the Barnes and Noble by work. What stopped me was the "young adult" classification. But I do love Hiaasen a lot...I can read one of his books at a sitting. So, I shall get it. Thank you. :-)

I need a break from "Pride and Prejudice". Jane Austen is a good writer, don't get me wrong. But...zzzzzzzzzz. Man, do her characters like to talk. And talk. And talk....

4. Terry, have you ever seen this quote from Mark Twain re: Jane Austen?
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 08:49 AM by Richardo
I haven't any right to criticise books, and I don't do it except when I hate them. I often want to criticise Jane Austen, but her books madden me so that I can't conceal my frenzy from the reader; and therefore I have to stop every time I begin. Everytime I read 'Pride and Prejudice' I want to dig her up and beat her over the skull with her own shin-bone.
- Letter to Joseph Twichell, 9/13/1898

 Let me know if you agree. :hi:

5. I agree with the learned Samuel Clemens on this.
He's spot on, Richardo. :-)

I'm honestly not sure how much longer I can take Ms. Austen's writing.

:hi:

7. Absolutely! A great book, even for adults.
And he is now starting work on the next 'adult' novel.

9. Finished it during the post-Rita power outage. "Hoot" is way better.
:(

This one is in first-person voice and has way too many Deux-ex-machinas at the end, even for a 'young adult' title. Disappointing.

10. thanks for your recommendation
I've wondered if Hoot was any good for us grown ups. My favorite is still Stormy Weather - a great read after all these hurricanes
