League of Women Voters Report on Election Auditing
Edited on Sun Feb-01-09 07:12 PM by Bill Bored
Yes, those wild-eyed, blue-haired, radical conspiracy theorists at the LWV are at it again folks! This time, they say they want to know who's really winning and losing elections. The nerve of some people. Maybe someone can tell me what they're putting in their Geratol lately!

Everyone knows that a hand count of 2% of the precincts, or better yet, some exit polls, are all you need to find out who won an election, right? But here they go, calling for more hand counts, selecting audit units, “Risk Limiting” audits, statistical considerations and escalation protocols. Blah, blah, blah...!

They should have stuck to running those Presidential Debates when they had the chance and left the conspiracy theorizing to the professionals. All this vote counting stuff is about as sexy as...oh never mind, you can read it for yourself:

Let me explain:

A few years ago no one gave a shit about auditing elections. 2% and Exit Polls were like some kind of fricking gold standard! Both are mostly bullshit.

Now, actually counting enough votes by hand to see who won is all the rage, and this is a good thing. It's become mainstream. Election officials still may not want to do it, but just about everyone else does. (Candidates are still clueless about e-voting problems though, but they have bigger fish to fry.)

Of course, we owe it all to Kathy Dopp, who practically INVENTED everything we know about auditing elections. (Woops, sorry, my sarcasm gene is expressing itself again.):spank:

But seriously, this LWV report is pretty good, so READ IT!

(And they don't all actually have blue hair either.)

7. 2003
Met a LWV lady at at political gathering. When I told here that they could easily steal votes, she looked at me as if I was the boogeyman.

So, it's only taken them 6 years? It's like a dream come true?

If someone can figure out how to combine it with adult-oriented content, we'd have the fake election problem fixed in no time!

6. Glad to hear they are making up for the time
when they thought electronic voting was just dandy. Guess they've seen the light on *that*!

(Actually, they saw the light on that some time ago - the part I couldn't believe was that they ever did have the blinders on.)
