Conyers, Nadler Invite Ken Blackwell for Hearing on Voter Suppression
By Paul Kiel - January 29, 2008, 4:21PM

Who wouldn't want to relive the 2004 election debacle in Ohio?

House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) and Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) have invited Ohio's controversial former Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell (R) for a chat about voting irregularities in the 2004 election. The hearing, which "will explore the current state of voting rights and the allocation of resources to end voter suppression and voter fraud," is scheduled for February 8th. Conyers and Nadler appear to be hoping that Blackwell's past success in suppressing voter turnout will be very informative. The invite is below.

Mr. Kenneth Blackwell

Family Research Council

801 G Street, N.W.

Washington, DC 20001

Dear Mr. Blackwell:

The Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties is planning to hold an oversight hearing on "Voter Suppression" on Friday, February 8, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 2141 of the Rayburn House Office Building. We are writing to invite you to testify at this hearing. The hearing will explore the current state of voting rights and the allocation of resources to end voter suppression and voter fraud.

There were a number of election irregularities in Ohio during the 2004 Presidential Election. Cumulatively, these irregularities, affected hundreds of thousand of voters. As we look forward to the 2008 Presidential Election, the Committee seeks to explore policies that should be implemented to avoid future voting problems and ensure that every American can exercise their right to vote.

17. Three years ago the 2004 electoral votes from Ohio were allowed. One year ago
Rep. John Conyers became a majority member and Comm. chair. The Comm. and Conyers have been very busy this last year, including investigations of this matter, so this should be very interesting. I've had some personal involvement, and I'm watching this closely.

9. Dec 14, 2004 Blackwell tells Conyers he can can go fly a kite
December 14, 2004

Ohio Sec. of State Blackwell's Worthless, Non-Committal Letter about Voting Irregularities in Ohio and Rep. Conyers' Letter in Response

BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

Ohio Sec. of State Blackwell tells Rep. Conyers and the Judiciary Committee that only the GAO and the DOJ can question his election results and, basically, anyone else can go fly a kite. In essence, Blackwell is saying that only the Republicans, who hedeclared the winners, can investigate their own victory.

13. Let's not forget how he tried to get Strickland taken off the gubernatorial ballot
on a technicality.

Hmm...if he'd been successful at that, there would have been only one major candidate to vote for...Blackwell...how conveeenient.

14. Let's 'hope' for a Dem Prez and an
aggressive AG who will NOT let these criminals ride off into the sunset like we did when Bill Clinton became Prez.

I am sick of hearing about 'hope'....I want JUSTICE AND THE RESTORATION OF OUR CONSTITUTION. Time will tell.

18. I have insider info. The Dems went to work on day one, and I've seen no let up yet.
A lot of things have been revealed, a lot of felons pushed out, and the amount to tie together is overwhelming still.

No days off in sight!

19. From the Conyers Report: "... intentional misconduct and illegal behavior...."

"... we find that there were massive and unprecedented voter irregularities and anomalies in Ohio. In many cases these irregularities were caused by intentional misconduct and illegal behavior...."

"... it is imperative that we examine any and all factors that may have led to
voting irregularities and any failure of votes to be properly counted."

20. This should be good
Of course Blackwell is well versed in lying. I hope Conyers makes him swear in before he testifies.
