Bush wanted Blackwell as his Assisatant SOS in 2001...Blackwell Declined.

(This may be old news to some of you Ohians, but I came across this while doing another search this a.m. I wondered why Blackwell declined to accept the SOS position? Anyone know?)

Brookings Insitute Items: 2000-2001 Bush First Term Appointees....

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Ohio secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell may be nominated this week to a high-level appointment in the State department. Blackwell may become assistant secretary of State specializing in human rights or counselor to the department.
(follow up later)

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell has decided not to accept a position in the Bush
administration.

1. "specializing in human rights"?
Enough of this Orwellian administration already!

The only good news is that, thank God, Blackwell declined.

3. Local lore has it that he flunked the FBI background check.
Otherwise he would have taken it in a heartbeat.

7. Sure would be interesting to know what it was in his background.
Maybe his wife pressured him not to move to DC...innocent, or maybe the background check would have turned up something. For someone with his big ego, it seems odd he would turn it down.

It might be helpful to know.

5. And it looks as if he'll be a FANTASTIC scapegoat too!
He's the perfect "sacrifice" for th administration. His Salem-style burning will distract dissenters. We need to remember this when it comes time.
