Plans to build Britain's biggest mosque in east London have collapsed.

The Islamic missionary group Tablighi Jamaat wanted to create a place of worship close to the Olympic site which could have accommodated 12,000 people.

Newham Council said planning permission for land in Abbey Mills expired in 2006 and a January deadline for the group to come up with a masterplan had passed.

Tablighi Jamaat, which has not been available for comment, has been told to leave the Abbey Mills site this week.

According to the report, there was "strong opposition" to the construction of the mosque, and more than 48,000 people signed a petition opposing it. Seen in the context of the minaret ban in Switzerland, looks like Europe is gripped by Islamophobia.

2. When planning permission ended in 2006, and you don't come up with a master plan, whose fault is
that? Your conclusion is telling however.

3. 48,000 signatures
in a city of seven and a half million people is a pretty piss-poor excuse for "Islamaphobia." These dumbasses clearly couldn't manage their shit and got kicked out of their illegal operation.

4. Well, I don't know
There is certainly Islamophobia - and, even more, anti-immigrant bigotry - in London.

There is also incompetent planning, which goes on all the time, and I doubt that Muslims are the only group immune to the disorder.

So I woudl reserve judgement as to the exact cause until I know more.

5. Not sure where you are in the UK
but check out issues regarding housing for the locals in the London Borough of Newham going right back to the late '70s. It might help you find some background as to why I'm guessing they could think of some far better usage of land.
