What is to stop the Bloc and the Conservatives from making
the following deal? Harper lets Quebec have total control over its internal affairs if the Bloc gives Harper the votes he needs for his domestic agenda and his foreign policy agenda. This would give both parties what they wish and screw much of the rest of the country.

1. Future Elections
And, Ontario and BC voters

"Stand Up For Canada" would become the biggest election lie in the History of this country.

2. I hope that is the case. I see that deal as a very possible and scary
outcome of this election.

6. I'm surprised that when the Cons came out with "Stand Up for Canada",
no one countered with "And Then Bend Over for Bush". Or would that have been too graphic an image for an election campaign?

3. Well, the Constitution Act would come into play
In theory, he couldn't cede powers mandated to the federal government by the BNA. However, someone would have to bring any such disputes to the Supreme Court. Generally the federal government does that, so if a party was in power that chose not to defend the federal interest, things could get sticky.

4. He would lose Ontario's support.
If you don't have Ontario behind you, you don't govern.

Sad but true.

5. I have been thinking the same thing....all the Bloc cares about is getting
as much control away from Ottawa as possible and they will sell out the rest of the country to get it....
