"Wis. pastor shares his plan to vote for McCain

By DINESH RAMDE , Associated Press

WEST BEND, Wis. - Pastor Luke Emrich prepared his sermon last week knowing his remarks could invite an IRS investigation. But he forged ahead anyway with his message: Thou shalt vote according to the Scriptures.

Emrich, 38, told about 100 worshippers Sunday they should make their own voting decisions, but urged them to cast their ballots in favor of an anti-abortion platform.

"I'm telling you straight up I would choose life. I would cast a vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin," he said, referring to the Republican ticket. "But friends, it's your choice to make, it's not my choice. I won't be in the voting booth with you."

1. I hope the IRS comes in and smacks his ass down
I don't agree with religion being tax exempt anyway. Biggest fucking racket in the world.

2. Technically, he didn't break the law.
Had he said, "Vote for McCain" he would have violated the law. Moreover, vanAsshole doesn't have the jurisdictional power to enforce IRS code violations.

3. I don't know.
Urging could be construed as vote for. Non religious non profits have to be very careful about this. If churchs can get away with this, then most groups that have all those costly and confusing 501c3 and 501c4 distinctions and regulations to abide by should be able to ignore them with impunity also.

4. Oh, don't get me started!
For those of us who play by the rules, it's one asshole like this that gets everyone else pissed at the church. :grr:

I have two bumperstickers on my car: "Got hope?" and "Obama '08"
THAT'S how I let anyone know my political views. In the building, in the worship service, it's inexcusable.
