Where's next years convention?
and can we start now to get a keynote speaker. It's very nice of Doyle to step in but we should really have a national figure.

And can't we get rid of the damn prayer!

3. There will be spring elections
Judges and local nonpartisan officers will be elected (city council, school board, etc.). The most important election will be for Supreme Court justice. The chief justice, Shirley Abrahamson, is up for reelection. She has been on the court for 30 years and one might think all that experience would make it easy for her, but she has a reputation as a liberal. Or she might retire (she's 74) and leave an open seat. Either way, the right wing will be back with a vengeance.

4. Then why have a state convention?
We only have state conventions in even years.

We had municipal elections last year and next year there won't be any elections.

5. Because there's still work to do
The parties do more than rally around candidates for election.

In odd years, we elect our party leadership. Choosing the right leaders is important. This election will probably be a rather hotly contested one as our current chair has announced he will not be running.

We make changes to our party constitution if necessary.

We will begin being courted by Gubernatorial contenders - unannounced most likely, but this is where the rumors start.

Admittedly, the odd year conventions are probably the more preferable conventions for political geeks. Try it. You might like it.

6. Next Year...in Green Bay
the DUer meetup should be in a place that DUers attending the convention don't have to drive to or, for that matter, drive home from.....it should be within crawling walking distance of the convention.

:hi:

7. Is that Titletown Brewery place still open?
Edited on Mon Jun-16-08 11:16 AM by fudge stripe cookays
reprehensor and I were up there a few years ago and really liked it (the Brewery, not Green Bay. Although our B & B, the Astor House, was really nice).

:hi:
