Edgar Martinez hanging em up?
I can't tell you how much this bums me out folks.

My interest in baseball directly coincides with Edgar Martinez's career. I became a fan in 1989 and have seen or listened to just about every game Edgar has played.

I have a general rule that my sports heroes ALWAYS stay separate from my life heroes, but Edgar Martinez was the one exception to that rule and now he's retiring... Just another kick in the balls in a season full of them.

Life sucks man.

1. I'd rather see him retire now
than pull your typical fading shell-of-your-former-self 85-years-old-and-still-playing routine. Brett Favre has that status with me, and to be honest, I'm not sure I want him playing much past this season.

2. Gar's got class
He'll be missed for sure, but his best days are long past, sadly. He'll be remembered as the most-loved Mariner, though, I think.

6. I think it showed class on Edgar's part to honor the boy president's
request. According to the article, it wasn't a political event.

Martinez refused to discuss his presidential preference.

"No politics!" he told reporters.

At least, Junior didn't stink up Safeco Field.

7. Thanks for the clarification
Sounds like not endorsing Shrub then and there means he wouldn't endorse him anyway.

(The ten second blip on local TV News and the Fox announcer on Saturday seemed to imply otherwise)
