Murray leads Rossi by Nine
http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/archives/221497.asp

Patty Murray leads Republican challenger Dino Rossi 53 percent to 44 percent, according to a new CNN/Time poll.

The results are consistent with an Elway Poll released this week that showed Murray up by nine.

"The state of Washington has been considered pretty blue in recent elections and Murray is capitalizing on that. She is winning support from 95 percent of self-identified Democrats," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. "And 93 percent of Republicans support Rossi, showing how polarized the electorate is - a consequence of the two extremely close gubernatorial races that Rossi ran in 2004 and 2008."

The CNN/Time sampling of 906 likely voters was taken Sept. 10-14. The margin of error was 3.5 percent. Click here for crosstabs. Murray leads Rossi 66-31 in King County, according to CNN/Time. The only geographic subset Rossi is ahead in is "rural," where he's up 58-39. Perhaps most troublingly for the Rossi campaign the two candidates are esssentially tied in the "suburban" category, with Murray leading 49-47. When Rossi nearly beat Chris Gregoire in the 2004 gubernatorial contest, he did well in the burbs.

1. Even better news--she leads by 5 in the new Rassmussen poll, too
That makes her RCP average +4 even taking into account the strange Survey USA poll that came out right after the primary.

I'd feel better if I was convinced that Murray was gaining but at this point it looks more like Rossi is losing a short-term primary bounce than anything else.

3. Watched tv a bit last night, saw the Rossi ad :Murray been in for the yrs of major deficit so vote
her out. While that fact is true (in during major deficit time) the logic that she was in any way responsible and deserves removing makes my head spin.

5. We can't allow ourselves to be complacent
Rossi is a snake and he'll be waiting to attack every chance he gets. We need to really work those swing districts and East of the Mountains.

6. Definitely some Mur-mentum
Better question is why. I know Rossi stepped in it over Boeing a bit, but I think the problem is that he's a retread. It's hard to take a guy seriously when he's attacking his opponent as a career politician when he started running for office in 1992. At any rate, Murray is a decent favorite right now (I put it at about 4 points) and Rossi is starting to flail around a bit. Good times.

7. Good
I despise Rossi more than I despise the usual repuke. On the other hand, I honestly admire Senator Murray.
