LDS Church Endorses Federal Marriage Amendment
"First Presidency Issues Statement on Marriage
7 July 2004

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement today. This is a statement of principle in anticipation of the expected debate over same-gender marriage. It is not an endorsement of any specific amendment.

"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints favors a constitutional amendment preserving marriage as the lawful union of a man and a woman."

2. If you haven't seen the movie "Latter Days" I highly recommend it.
I think it is coming out on DVD in a month or so.

3. Let me put on my surprise face
Amazing what difference time makes, isn't it? In the past, the church didn't want the government deciding such matters. Of course, that was when the marriage debate was about polygamy. Now the church favors a federal amendment to limit it to a man and woman. Woman as in singular. The church can't fight homosexuals hard enough. This is the same group which loves to remember how they were persecuted for being different. Yet now, loves to be the persecutor.

4. So does Congressman Jim Matheson
"I have always defined marriage as between a man and a woman and believe marriage is a sacred institution as such."

blah blah blah chuck separation of church and state...

"Therefore, should a constitutional amandment defining marriage as between a man and a woman be brought before Congress, I will support it."

Well that's our fierce democrat! The Constitution is to protect people of all religions and those that prefer to sweep that dust cloud of religion out the window of their minds, not just the followers of the "sacred fraternity."
