He was a Texas State Senator, so he's had a lot of legislative experience. He will do the best job for the state on environment. Plus I like the fact that he would represent undeserved areas like our border and RGV area.
Here is some of the message he sent out today.

My committee assignments were varied and interesting, and covered a broad range of areas, including protection of our environment, such as making sure Texans have clean water to drink, and clean air to breathe. In the Senate’s I chaired the standing sub-committee on Water was vice-chair of the joint subcommittee on Oil Spills and Water Pollution Abatement. I authored laws protecting Texans from pollutants and carcinogens and conserving Texas’s natural resources.
That is what brought me to this race. The Texas Land Commissioner is specifically tasked to manage the state’s land and resources. The commissioner supervises our beaches, bays, the forests of East Texas and majestic expanses of West Texas. It produces revenue for the permanent school fund by leasing drilling rights and runs complex and important programs ranging from the Adopt-A-Beach program to the Oil Spill Prevention and Response program. It’s also important that the Texas Land Commissioner is among those on the Texas Legislative Redistricting Board.
This campaign is about every Democrat running for office and every person in Texas. With your help, we will mobilize both historic voters and new voters in the often-neglected parts of San Antonio, Brownsville, McAllen, Harlingen, Del Rio, El Paso, Corpus Christie and the rest of the Hispanic communities of Texas.
I respect the natural and historic heritage of our state, and that is what we need in our Land Commissioner. A call to service brought me to this race, and together, we will win it. We are not working to win a seat in the Land Commissioner’s office, but assure we take back the Governor’s Mansion, the Texas House, and better representation throughout Texas. This is the year, we work together, to end the Republican control of Texas.
