UT Brownsville President Juliet Garcia Tapped For Obama Transition Team
Capitol Annex blog
Juliet Garcia, the president of the University of Texas at Brownsville, has been tapped for Barack Obama’s transition team.

From the Brownsville Herald:

"I consider public service to be our highest calling; so I am greatly honored to have been invited to take part in the historic transition of our young democracy," Garcia said in a written statement to The Brownsville Herald.

The future of the Rio Grande Valley under Obama and Vice-President-elect Joe Biden Jr. bodes well, political pundits said.

Brownsville native Federico F. Peña, former U.S. secretary of transportation and energy and former Denver mayor, was national co-chair of Obama’s campaign.

Wow! Congratulations to Juliet Garcia! Smart move for Obama!

This will raise the visibility for Texas Latinos in the Obama administration.

:woohoo: :bounce::woohoo:

Second Valley educator tapped by Obama

November 6, 2008 - 9:58PM
By Sara Perkins, The Monitor

EDINBURG - University of Texas-Pan American professor Espiridion "Al" Borrego has been asked to join Barack Obama's presidential transition team, U.S. Rep. Rubén Hinojosa's office confirmed Thursday.

Borrego, 62, of Edinburg, has been the director of the public administration program at UTPA since 2004.

He is at least the second Rio Grande Valley educator to be contacted by Obama's transition team, which is responsible for selecting personnel and setting up the executive branch of the president-elect.

:wow: This is getting really exciting for the Rio Grande Valley! Good for them!
