My LTTE of the Denton Record Chronicle was printed today.
It's a response to an editorial they ran June 28th.The gist of the editorial is pretty apparent from my response so here it is:

*************************************************************

DeLay's Last Trick

I read your editorial about the dispute over Tom DeLay staying on the ballot after resigning his House seat.

The tone implies that the Democrats in particular are playing fast and loose with the spirit of Texas law to gain a seat that the Republican nominee has no intention of running for.

It really does put a strain on the beleaguered Republicans, doesn't it?

So why would a good Republican such as Tom DeLay make it harder for his party to pick up his seat this November? Because DeLay won the primary and accepted a lot of campaign money in the process,he is entitled to keep the money. No primary win, no campaign money.

We also wouldn't have this little mess to sort out in court either.

Because of DeLay's gerrymandering tactic, a Texas House delegation that would have been 17-15 in favor of Republicans is now 21-11 in their favor.

The Texas Republican Party should be content with the eight-seat advantage DeLay has bequeathed them. Or they shouldn't have given him the opportunity to cash in on the one last, final sleazy little trick this most corrupt politician in Texas history had up his sleeve.

So picking up the 22nd District will be a little tougher for the Republicans this fall. It's all for a good cause. Tom "The Hammer" DeLay will be needing the primary money to help him stay out of jail.

Tom DeLay: sleazy and self serving to the end.

****************************************************************

On the down side, my letter is right under the latest Ann Coulter column. On the up side, Molly Ivins is to my right.

2. Way to go argyl!
Great letter. I really liked the end too, he does need that money to stay out of jail. So I can't see him campaigning too vigorously and using any of it to win.

3. I lived in Denton from 87-93. Even though UNT was liberal
the surrounding community was red. I even had that slug Dick Armey's son in a few of my classes. Congrats on the letter.

4. Yeah, Denton is a little bipolar. The surrounding area is renowned for
breeding some of the finest quarter horses in the country so there's a cowboy culture, both real and drugstore.

The area is also undergoing a lot of growth and a lot of it's of the Plano, McMansion, SUV driving type, unfortunately.

Also, looks like a lot of the Fry Street area is going to be torn down and have Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, etc. type franchises put up in its place, courtesy of a Houston area real estate development group.Petitions are being signed, the UNT community is up in arms and even a lot of mainstream political and business people want to see the area retain its unique flavor.

Some will be lost; it's now a question of how much. It's a damn shame.

I came here from Dallas 25 years ago. Back then, when you drove from Dallas to Denton you were going someplace. In the early 70's about all you could of Lewisville from I 35 was the water tower,Whittle Boats Sales and Big Jack's convenience store. Now Denton's not even the northern edge of the DFW Metroplex anymore. It's probably Sanger now. Should be Gainesville by 2015.

The paper I wrote my letter to, the Denton Record Chronicle, is now owned by Dallas media giant,Belo Broadcasting, the same outfit that owns the Dallas Morning News.

That's progress, I guess.

5. They are tearing down Fry Street.
That is ridiculous! Does the city still do the Fry Street Fair? I haven't been since the early 90s. Belo owns the DRC? Ugh, that is such a repuke corp.

6. It's a shame and has caused a lot of uproar around here. For more info
you can go to www.frystreetfair.com.They've got a good rundown on the Fair and the action being taken by the citizens to try and save Fry Street.

8. UNT student here...

Working hard to keep those greedy carpetbaggers out of our community here in Denton. I will have lived in Denton for one year come August, but the Tomato, Mr. Chopsticks, Riprocks, and Cool Beans made the transition easier; it felt so homey. The last thing I want to see is our community destroyed. Not to mention some steps in the corporatization would increase our already-through-the-roof tuition.

Many people come here from Dallas, Fort Worth, Lewisville, etc. for the unique SMALL BUSINESSES we have here. No one is gonna wanna come all the way up here for Starbucks, CVS, or Borders when there are already more than plenty of those much closer to them. And hey, this is a public school, not a rich kid school like SMU.

9. Thanks for your efforts. I used to come up here from Dallas years
ago. It was a real breath of fresh air. Denton was so laid back and had a really eclectic feel to it.A little jewel hidden in the middle of North Texas.I regret that it's gotten so much larger but the spirit is still here, just a little harder to find.

I'm glad you like our town. Welcome to Denton.

12. You're welcome. Good Dems from around the country are behind you.
I can sympathize also. I'm in the 26th District, formerly represented by DeLay crony and fellow arm twister Dick Armey.

At least Armey meant it when he resigned. I can't believe DeLay may actually renege on his resignation. If he does Lampson will have a large influx of cash from around the country.
