Dallas DUers: Whatcha taking to the DCDP Labor Day picnic?
Just curious - also trying to avoid any duplications. Thanks!

1. I think it's embarassing that we're having it.
I am really embarrassed by the nation's reaction as a whole. Everything goes on as scheduled. IIRC, life stopped after 9/11. Probably more than 10 times that number dead now and everyone is still having parties, going to ball games and having fun. Pfffft!

2. I agree.
It's hard for me to understand the reaction of most people - almost as if nothing has happened.

Maybe it's because the media focus on 9/11 was the body count, but after Katrina the primary focus was on looting. Maybe it's tragedy fatigue.

I don't know, but it just seems surreal to me that people can even be thinking about other things. My cat was killed on Wednesday and I haven't even had time to mourn him because I have been so busy with volunteering and getting friends and family to donate, etc.

3. Look, guys...
I understand your frustration. I feel paralyzed, myself, because of the sheer scope of the tragedy. crispini, I hope to God your family is hanging in there.

But many of the folks in New Orleans are now in Dallas. And some of them are saying they're never going back. And a prominent Democrat from Louisiana's party machine was at the picnic today rallying help and support from Metroplex Dems.

If Dallas County isn't blue yet, it's pretty damn close. And these former New Orleanians that are now calling Big D their new home could be the key to turning Dallas blue now and forever - after all, they've seen what Republican malaise has done to NOLA and to the rescue/relief effort.

If we can't participate in the aid directly, we can at least keep our eyes on the prize. And these folks need our help and support in so many ways.
