Anyone listen to Lynn Cullen's show this morning?
I know WPTT doesn't have the world's strongest signal, but all the Pittsburgh DU'ers should really listen to her show if you get the chance.

She was taking calls and emails from Catholics saying that a lot of churches here are basically threatening the parishoners by saying voting for Kerry is a mortal sin.

1. A caller to Jerry Bowyer, who is on WPTT before her, said this:
Bush voters are churchgoing Catholics.

Kerry voters don't go to church.

Bowyer is an ignorant prick.

6. Bowyers callers are big chickens and whiners
The guy who set off Lynn's show yesterday called Jerry today whining that he didn't say Catholics who receive communion and pray the rosary are most likely to vote Repug. But when Jerry asked him to call Lynn's show he wouldn't cause she might not agree with him.

This isn't isolated. Jerry's show many mornings is nothing but callers whining and misrepresenting what that "facist" Lynn said in her show. And usually they are the ones who misrepresent what she or her callers said.

BTW, Lynn's show both yesterday and today were great. Yesterday she had caller after caller saying they are practicing Catholics, pray the rosary, saying no way in Hell would they vote for Bush and they were voting Kerry. Even had a nun and an ex-nun call.

One caller mentioned a family member who had gotten a flyer from her church saying if they voted for Kerry they would be denied the Eucharist. I think it was the caller's sister and she was disappointed her sister's family was now scared to vote for Kerry cause they didn't want to be denied communion.

Lynn also had a caller that said good Jews had to vote for Bush which set Lynn off. She is Jewish and had just been to Israel. Said she talked politics with people living there and most said they felt Bush made the ME more unstable and more dangerous for Israel.

3. the guy is Catholic
WTF? In all my years as a Catholic, I never heard anyone denigrate a Catholic politician until more recently. It used to be that Catholics were thrilled to have a politician who was Catholic. This is just a measure of how evil the * people are, and how they have managed to co-opt religious fervor and use the abortion debate to polarize voters. Incredible.

4. Then again, they tried to do the same to JFK
If my recollection of history is accurate, they tried to smear Kennedy by saying a Catholic President would put the Vatican ahead of America.

Didn't work against that JFK, don't think it will work with this JFK either.

7. No surprise there. MANY institutions are experiencing rise of EVIL
The Catholic Chruch, with their Hitlerian Opus Dei Society, is affected like the rest.

It's the domino effect of Amerika going to Totalitarian "Managed Democracy".

8. Ah yes Opus Dei, Scalia's good buds

I as a lifelong Western PA Catholic have absolutely had it with this deliberate, newly energetic insertion of the Catholic Church into the political process this political season, in this very lopsided manner, fixated as they are on this one issue and one issue alone. When they distribute similar pamphlets advocating the defeat of any candidate who is enthusiatically pro war, pro death penalty, anti national health care insurance, anti living wage and anti-environmental protection then maybe their political commentary would have some greater measure of moral credibility. However I feel reasonably confident that no such missives are likely to issue like that in the near future since broader issues of social justice and compassion for the needy seem to have disappeared from the agenda of the leaders of the present day Church, perhaps reflecting the growing power of the Opus Dei group and their like-mided adherents.
