Clermont County results delayed - Cincinnati EnquirerOnly 51 of 200 Clermont County precincts were counted by 12:10 a.m. Officials at the Clermont County Board of Elections said it was taking longer than expected to count write-in votes. Because of the slow pace, a final vote tally was unlikely until early this morning.Edited to Add History:
Clermont County Board of Elections Refused to Answer Recount Questions About IrregularitiesExcerpt:
"Clermont County used optical scan sheets, many of which were altered with stickers to cover a third party candidate vote (and at least one vote for Kerry), and modified to cast a vote for Bush. There were many other irregularities as well, and most are detailed in the letter below (e.g., Ralph Nader's name being present on the ballot). We still have not received answers to any of our questions." - Bob Drake of the Clermont County recount teamBBV: Did the GOP steal another Ohio Election? (Hackett vs. Schmidt)But election officials announced a mysterious "computer glitch" that delayed reports from Clermont County, which accounted for roughly a quarter of all the ballots cast in the district.
When things finally settled out, Clermont gave Schmidt 58 percent, and a 5,000-vote margin and, thus, the election.
Earlier in the evening—-around 9 pm—-Hackett and Schmidt had been in a virtual dead heat, according to sources in the Cincinnati area (see among them billmon.org/archives/002073.html).
A full 88 percent of the district's precincts had then reported, including more than half those in Clermont. As in Florida 2000 and Ohio 2004, it looked like a cliffhanger. Schmidt's lead was less than 900 votes. One election, it's a crazy "computer glitch." The next election, it's those pesky "write-in ballots."
What the fuck is going on in the Clermont County BOE?
