Clermont County Shenanigans... not again!!!
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 02:13 AM by VolcanoJen
The most yahoo county in the state shows its colors. Again.

Excerpt:

Clermont County results delayed - Cincinnati Enquirer

Only 51 of 200 Clermont County precincts were counted by 12:10 a.m. Officials at the Clermont County Board of Elections said it was taking longer than expected to count write-in votes. Because of the slow pace, a final vote tally was unlikely until early this morning.

Edited to Add History:

Clermont County Board of Elections Refused to Answer Recount Questions About Irregularities

Excerpt:

"Clermont County used optical scan sheets, many of which were altered with stickers to cover a third party candidate vote (and at least one vote for Kerry), and modified to cast a vote for Bush. There were many other irregularities as well, and most are detailed in the letter below (e.g., Ralph Nader's name being present on the ballot). We still have not received answers to any of our questions." - Bob Drake of the Clermont County recount team

BBV: Did the GOP steal another Ohio Election? (Hackett vs. Schmidt)

But election officials announced a mysterious "computer glitch" that delayed reports from Clermont County, which accounted for roughly a quarter of all the ballots cast in the district.

When things finally settled out, Clermont gave Schmidt 58 percent, and a 5,000-vote margin and, thus, the election.

Earlier in the evening—-around 9 pm—-Hackett and Schmidt had been in a virtual dead heat, according to sources in the Cincinnati area (see among them billmon.org/archives/002073.html).

A full 88 percent of the district's precincts had then reported, including more than half those in Clermont. As in Florida 2000 and Ohio 2004, it looked like a cliffhanger. Schmidt's lead was less than 900 votes.

One election, it's a crazy "computer glitch." The next election, it's those pesky "write-in ballots."

What the fuck is going on in the Clermont County BOE?

6. I was a polling judge in Mason (132nd precicnt)...
and when we dropped off the ballots the BofE was open. No shut down this time.

I did talk to the presiding judge at the 132nd precinct, a republican who I worked with from 6:00 am to 9:00 PM yesterday, concerning the lock down last year. . There are two republicans and two democrats at each precinct per state law. He was also upset with what happened last year. It was not the county commissioners who did it but the Director of Public Safety who authorized the lock down. He did the lock down based on a rumor, of all things. The biggest problem was he did not allow the press to observe the count. There was no reason to bar the press from the count. To me this should have been grounds for firing his ass. To my dismay the idiot still holds the job.

I also found out from a Democrat who works at the Warren Co. B of E that only a handful of provisional ballots were not counted for the entire county. The 70/30 split with Bush* winning Warren County is actually skewed toward the Democrats which probably takes into account some Democrats registering as republicans. You have to realize there are no elected Democrats in Warren County and it has been that way for many years. None of the long time residents in Warren County who I know can remember a Democrat in public office in the County. Having lived in Mason for the past 18 years I am not at all surprised of last years results.

The good thing concerning Warren County now is the demographics are slowly changing because of in-migration of people from other areas of the country. We Democrats are becoming a "larger" minority in the county. The 2006 elections should be interesting, even in Warren County because the repukians I know are not happy with what is going on in Columbus with the current "leadership" if you can call it leadership.

4. So who so you think ought to investigate this?
Some state agency? Watchdog group? Independent documentarian? Intrepid millionaire? I hope there's some option more legal and ethical than kidnapping the BOE and interrogating them in a manner that comports to our high CIA or military standards. But there is something fishy going on there. But what why would they be screwing with the results this time? They defeated election reform with disinformation alone, didn't they?
