I just donated $10 to Reform Ohio Now
I was reading Daily Kos and I saw the site there. My brother & his family live in Ohio and are major Bush supporters so I donated this money in his name.

I mean, if we can take baby steps a few states here and there especially with redistricting then maybe, just maybe we can make a difference in the rest of the world.

Maybe if the country sees what Ohio is doing then they'll take the steps needed to reform their state.

Then again I live in Delaware so we don't have to worry about redistricting since we only have one representative :eyes:

2. "I donated this money in his name"
He will probably get on some direct mail address list and start getting the same stuff I am getting from Hillary every other month. har har. Thanks for donating. I put my boots on the ground Saturday and knocked on doors per a canvassing call list the RON group created. Most people were not available, but my impressions from talking to those who were home was positive. Most people were uninformed, so I think the canvas was a good use of time--and your brother's money.

3. "Most people were uninformed." What's up with that?
With election day so close, we haven't received even one brochure from RON explaining these issues. We've been inundated with council members running for election and with local issues, but nothing from RON.

Did you have pamphlets to pass out?

Thanks for your boots being on the ground!!

6. I had fun canvassing for RON
I met some new people at a friend's house, practiced our presentations, teamed up and got our assignments. I paired up with this poli sci major who really knew the issues. He "lamented" not being able to vote in the 1998 midterms because he was not 18 yet, but he knew there were important issues. Can we say "Wonk"!? He was rattling off sections of the constitution to explain his arguements as we walked about the neigborhood. There's hope with young people like him around.

We only had two rude responses and even got a request for a yard sign.

This was a good canvas to hone one's skills on, because the issues are not "hot button" issues and we were not plugging a candidate. Hence, people were at least receptive. There are not too many Ohioans who can make a case that they like the status quo and what Taft is doing.

I think everyone should try it. There is a volunteer page at the www.reformohionow.org web page.

4. Thanks for the $10!
public awayness will be a big thing in the next ten days. All the $10 add up.

I've had similar experience canvassing. Most are generally accepting when they realize this is about fair elections and fairer elections help everyone. (except those who cheat of course...)

5. Just received this e-mail from RON
"The donor matching all funds to help us run our ad has generously extended the deadline until tomorrow! That means this is really, truly your last chance to help us run our ad and double your impact.

As of this morning, we've raised $43,000 out of $50,000 thanks to our incredible supporters. We're so close! Can you help us fill the gap?

Please help us raise that last $7,000 and take advantage of this generous match before it runs out tomorrow! Go to:

https://secure.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizations/ron/shop/custom.jsp?donate_page_KEY=1019&t=donate

The Toledo Blade recently revealed where Ohio First, the anti-reform group, is getting the cash to run its TV smear campaign. It's being funded by the same corporate special interests who reap the benefits from Ohio's corrupt political system: corporations with names like First Energy, Cinergy, Timken, and Columbia Gas.

Why would utility conglomerates and other big businesses pump hundreds of thousands of dollars into a campaign against political reform? The answer is at the heart of Issues 2, 3, 4 & 5: it's because these political players, just like Tom Noe, know that a check for $100,000 or $500,000 is a small price to pay to keep bending the ear of Gov. Bob Taft or party bosses. And if they have to mislead voters to protect their influence, their reaction is the same as Taft's: "no problem."

This is the same culture of corruption our volunteers are fighting every night as they walk door-to-door. And it's the reason matching Ohio First ad for ad is so important.

Don't let this dollar-for-dollar match pass us by! Please donate today at:

https://secure.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizations/ron/shop/custom.jsp?donate_page_KEY=1019&t=donate

With your help, we can take this state back from the unaccountable politicians who have failed to keep their promises. Let's show them what it means to restore the trust to Ohio. Let's show them the power of the grassroots!

Thank you so much.

Sincerely,
Everyone at Reform Ohio Now"
