Poll question: Who Is Your Choice For Democratic Candidate for Governor?
The only two candidates I believe to have offically announced their intention to run are Columbus Mayor Mike Coleman and Congressman Ted Strickland, Who would you Choose?

2. I think Strickland
has served his district well and accepted no health care nor raises. A former Methodist minister and a strong voice against the Iraq war, Strickland's religious training may be just what is needed vs. the Bible-thumping right.

4. that tips my opinion
somewhat in favor of Strickland, but it is too early & Sherrod may be jumping into the fray so I'll reserve judgement.

Plus we have to get hackett elected in two weeks from now:

9. No Way
Strickland would make a good candidate, and his religious background certainly doesn't hurt, but Ohio doesn't vote religion. They vote on taxes and on jobs. And guess what the Ohio Republicans have given them on taxes and jobs? Any Democrat who can convincingly convey this message in the '06 governor/senator race should make a good run at it.

6. Anyway who's not afraid to push back against the NRA gets my vote!
At least for now I'm saying that. I really don't know anything about Strickland.

7. Any Democrat...
who supports the right to keep and bear arms gets my vote. That's Strickland. Coleman has amply demonstrated his lack of respect for the 2nd Amendment and Art. 1, Sec. 4 of the Ohio Constitution. That makes him an unviable candidate in Ohio.

8. Coleman for Governor, Strickland for Senator
We can take both these seats. These two guys are Ohio's two strongest Democrats. Coleman should be able to defeat Petro, Montgomery, or Blackwell, especially with the three of them fighting it out in the primary.

I think Strickland, overall, is the stronger candidate, which is why he should take on DeWine who, right now, is one of the lowest-polling senators in the country. Strickland is a charming man who can win in a Republican stronghold--DeWine is, by no means, charming. And his son just lost for the upteenth time in OH-2. Ohio is trending blue, and these two guys are our best hopes for capitalizing on it.

11. Strickland for Senator
I would be thrilled to see Strickland run against DeWine. You're right that he would have a strong chance against a weak candidate like DeWine. Strickland could pick off a lot of rural Republican support from anti-gun rights DeWine. Either Petro or Blackwell would be a much stronger candidate than DeWine.

Realistically, Coleman has no chance against anyone running for anything statewide. I'm not even sure I could overlook the insults Coleman has thrown the way of gun owners.
