Aug. 2 - Bush to be at Kirtland Hills, Ohio at Blackwell Fundraiser
Bush plans to headline Blackwell fundraiser
Thursday, July 13, 2006
Joe Hallett
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
A presidential fundraising foray to the Cleveland area next month could add $1 million or more to Republican gubernatorial nominee J. Kenneth Blackwell’s campaign coffers.

President Bush will headline the event for Blackwell Aug. 2 at the Kirtland Hills home of Edward F. Crawford, chief executive officer of Park-Ohio Holdings Corp.

Bush raised about $3 million for GOP candidates during a July 30, 2004, fundraiser at Crawford’s home.

Tickets for the Blackwell fundraiser are $1,000 per person, or $10,000 for those wishing to be photographed with the president. Honorary event chairs are Gov. Bob Taft, Attorney General Jim Petro and state Auditor Betty D. Montgomery.

5. I agree, that's why a large protest waiting for Bush would be a good thing
I am discouraged however, that there doesn't seem to be any DU'ers from the Cleveland area.

I am thinking about making a sign:

GOP - GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER

Think it is too much???

7. I don't think it is too much
here are few more suggestions...
"Ohio is tired of crooks"
"Ohio wants a recount"
"Betty, what are you thinking?"
"You're wasting your money.. you should have gone shopping"
"Try to steal this vote: Blackwell NO"
"Just say Noe to Blackwell"
"Culture of Corruption Convention"
"C'mon Jim, we know you're voting for Ted"

8. My fave is "Just Say NOE to Blackwell".....very, very clever!!

I flunked out in getting help to post some freeway signs like the freeway blogger does.

I was hoping to get an army of volunteers who would flood I-90 overpasses with great signs!!

I can't believe that Bush will be allowed to come into NE Ohio and not experience the wrath of people who have lost much during his watch.

Do you think that people just don't care enough to put forth physical effort? Or maybe it's not a worth while thing to do???

9. I think it is definitely a worth while thing to do!
I don't think it's apathy either - I can only speak for myself, but I am putting forth physical effort this campaign (I know many others are too) I've volunteered for 3 campaigns, have done 1 fundraiser for a candidate and one for the local party, I'm doing another fundraiser for Jennifer Brunner Aug 12, organizing canvassing, and have now been put in charge (against my wishes) of fund raising for the local party. Aug 2 is a workday and I just have too many other obligations.. we all do our part in one way or another - I appreciate your willingness to organize a protest. alas... DU is probably not the best place to find volunteers, the Ohio forum is kinda quiet lately and we are all spread out all over the State.

I think another poster suggested networking with your local Dem groups - or look to young dems, check out moveon, post on dfa, just some suggestions....

10. Thanks, all your suggestions are worth while, I am a neophyte when it
comes to "protesting".

I appreciate and respect all of the work you do volunteering your time for candidates.

That too, is where all of my political energies typically are spent. Right now I am feeling so passionate about "him" drifting into Cleveland on Air Force one to RAISE MONEY FOR BLACKKKWELL, that I think everyone feels the same as I do, and see an opportunity to let the scumbag know NE Ohio is not happy with the job he is doing.

I contribute where I can, and then always seem to champion the gems of candidates who end up being underdogs.

Eric Fingerhut is one, and today it is Lew Katz.

Ultimately, I always end up in the minority in my own Party!!!
