Ten Things You Can Do Right Now to Help Draft Al Gore
And one thing you can do later to help:

Below are 10 simple things you can do right now to help out. If you wish to become more actively involved with the movement, please sign up as a volunteer or join a chapter in your state (see the Get Involved section on the left).

1. Sign the Draft Gore petition, now over 110,000 strong.

2. Tell all your friends about the petition and gather signatures for the petition on a paper version. (Please send us an email if you gather signatures.) There are millions of us out there. We rely on you to get word to them.

3. Make a contribution to Draft Gore. Our expenses are great and our only source of funding is you. We need to advertise in the mainstream media to let people know about this movement. We can't do it without you.

4. Purchase bumperstickers, buttons, or our new collector poster.

5. Write a letter to Al Gore TODAY and ask him to run:

The Office of the Honorable Al Gore
2100 West End Avenue, Suite 620
Nashville, TN 37203.

6. Write an email to the Democratic National Committee telling them you will support no one but Al Gore in 2008.

7. Have a website or blog? Add our link buttons and promotional ad to publicize our movement.

8. Download a Draft Gore flyer off our website and post it or hand it out in Democratic-friendly areas.

9. Add a signature line to your email (and make sure to include our URL: draftgore.com).

10. Host a party. Watch "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore's Oscar-winning documentary, now available on DVD. Or organize your own event, fundraiser, or party. Then post it on our boards.

Here is #11 for later (and this I've added to their list):

BECOME A DELEGATE. First choice, an uncommitted delegate. In case there is a brokered convention (see below), you can propose Al Gore as a nominee. Second choice, as a committed delegate to your second choice candidate. That way if there is a brokered convention, you can join the uncommitted delegates in supporting Al Gore.

From http://mydd.com/story/2007/2/27/93023/1076 :

Re: The seemingly inevitable brokered convention (2.00 / 1)

This is the only path to Gore.

Really... Hillary has 40% of the delegates, Obama/Edwards/other have the rest.

Let's say Hillary has 40, Obama has 30 and Edwards has 20.

Theoretically Obama and Edwards could come together as some sort of ticket. Given their similar credentials that would be unlikely and perhaps unwise.

Its impossible for Hillary to run with Obama, and similarly unlikely Edwards would be Hillary's choice, given her need for more experience on the ticket.

In other words- the big three are all mutually incompatible on a ticket (unlike, say, Reagan/Bush, where Bush added some foreign policy gravitas and moderate credentials for Reagan, or Kennedy/Johnson, obviously!)

The power player here is whoever is in 2nd. If its Obama or Edwards, either one could call Al Gore and say "I'm in for Veep if you open yourself for a draft" knowing a third of everyone else's support could easily be harnessed for Gore. What's more-- the two tickets--

Gore/Obama or Gore/Edwards make a ton of sense strategically.

Gore/Obama-- African American turnout would be almost as high as if Obama were at the top of this ticket.

Gore/Edwards-- bonus for the dems- no swiftboating this time around- both are well-known quantities and there is really nothing left to say about either from a scandal/ethical standpoint that people don't already know or haven't heard - unlike, say, Guiliani.

A brokered convention is the road for Gore.
And he knows this.

Would you hire George W Bush to be YOUR latex salesman?

1. I commend you for posting this in support of Gore. BUT, I'm not of the
same mind (Gore for President) and I want to tell you why.

I think Gore has a greater gift to give to the WORLD that's needed more than his presence in the WH.

If he were to become President, his focus would by necessity become fractured to address the myriad of domestic, international, foreign relations, etc. issues.

None of those issues or areas will be of any importance if the current state of our earth continues on the current path. (Not stated well, but I know you know what I'm trying to say.)

Gore has the ability and capacity and intelligence and desire to help all of humanity. Can you feel how enormous that is? He can literally help save the world. I can't think of another person who could perform in this role. And we need his help in that area desperately.

It's my fantasy that he would be appointed by the President in a capacity which would allow him to continue his passion with the added presence of the US behind him. Of course, in my fantasy, the President gives Gore free rein, absolute autonomy, because this is more than just a political problem. (And I have to insert here I see Biden as willing to do that -- my opinion only, of course.)

Why even drag him into Washington's embrace? Why not just stay with the current situation and let him carry on his crusade as he is now?

I heard Madeline Albright respond to a question when asked if she encountered difficulties in Muslim countries as a woman SOS: "It's easy to get people to listen to you when you arrive in a large white jet with The United States of America in huge letters emblazoned on the side."

As a rep of the US Gore could have access to any heads of state and spread his message far wider than he can now.

So I think the President needs to focus on getting our country back on track, and leave it in Gore's capable hands to help get the EARTH back on track.

You can tell I'm passionate about Gore, too -- just with a different opinion on how he can BEST help us all.

2. Re-elect President Gore!
I have my fingers crossed for some news after the Nobel Peace Prize winner is announced on the 12th.
