Wake County School Board elections - critical
This is a Wake Dem posting I received for any and all who can help:

"This weekend is our last chance to get out and talk to voters about Tuesday's critical School Board run-offs. Nothing increases turnout more than face-to-face contact.

The weather will be wonderful and the Democrats you talk to will be receptive. Please take a few hours to help protect the future of our schools!

Canvasses meet at 10 am on Saturday and noon on Sunday. Here are the locations:

Cary -- for School Board District 9 -- candidate Eleanor Goettee
Saturday and Sunday meet at Godbold Park, 2050 NW Maynard Road
(on Maynard between Chapel Hill Road and N Harrison).

NE Wake -- for School Board District 1 -- candidate Lori Millberg

Saturday meet at Kiwanis Park, 400 East Holding Street, Wake Forest (Small park, Holding is off Main St in Wake Forest, near the library and the post office. Look for Stone Chapel Church on the cornder of Holding and Main)

Sunday meet at Knightdale Public Library, 946 Steeple Square, Knightdale (off N. Smithfield Road which is off 62 in Knightdale).

Our candidates may represent their districts, but their decisions on the Board effect all 120,000+ students in our schools. We need you no matter where you live!

Can you come? Let me know -- Julia Lee at [email protected].

If the opponents to these two get elected, it will HEAVILY skew the school board towards the fundie right. Both of the opponents are supported by Call2Action for their fundamentalist (abstinence only, anti-gay) beliefs.

They are also supported by the anti-diversity crowd who want to go back to lily-white "neighborhood" schools.

2. A correction
N Smithfield is off of business 64 not 62. If you are unfamiliar with Knightdale your best way of getting there would be to take US 64 bypass to the Smithfield road exit, head north for a few miles. You will take the first left after business 64 (corner has two drug stores on north side of intersection).

I have no idea what the "deleted message" was about that popped this to the top.
