Attn: Triangle DUers... invasion of DU'ers from other states on 11/11
Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 05:29 PM by Cyndee_Lou_Who
I will be in Durham area the weekend of November 11, as will the FABULOUS VelmaD.

I am talking with my boyfriend (short bus president) about a DU meet-up on that Friday - November 11.

Who is interested in attending and any ideas on location? I know SBP is talking dinner/drinks, he mentioned a good seafood place near supernova's...

Let me know. See you soon! :hi:

2. He's talking about Kemp's
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 06:27 PM by supernova
I think. :hi: Cyndee and Velma!

 Although, the last time we met there, on SBP's recommendation I might add, he DIDN'T SHOW!

edit: If we met there, we'd have to wait; they don't take reservations and there is alwyas a line out the door.

3. He told me that he PROMISES he'll show this time... and I will be there to
see to that!! Promise!

Waiting is no good, unless you can wait at the bar...

any others you can round up would be great, too.

:hi:

4. He was most emphatic to me via email that he did NOT...
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 12:18 PM by VelmaD
mean Kemp's. Something about "No fuggin way I'm waiting in their line for 2 hours on a Friday night. No-reservation-taking bastards."

I'm not sure where he meant but I'll find out.

He says it's near the intersection of 70 and I85 if you know where he's talking about.

Otherwise we can throw it open to more suggestions on a place to go.

5. I have no idea, then
what he means. Me no decipher SBP-speak. ;-)

The other place would be George's Garage on 9th St in Durham. Or the
42nd St Oyster Bar in Raleigh. But both can be pricey of $$ is an issue.

6. $$$ is always an issue...
and it needs to be somewhere that we can obtain refreshing alcoholic beverages. Other than that I'm completely open to whereever people want to go.

I am defering to the knowledge of the local area DUers as to a good place to go. Where would be good?

9. There is a Harbor Bay Seafood
on Groucho Lane at the intersection of 70 and 85. It is in the 27705 zip code near Eno River State Park, Pleasant Green Rd., Mt Herman Church Rd., and 751.

Could that be it?

13. Squid's is not bad
It's in Chapel Hill near Eastgate, just off 15-501. Decent seafood, casual, good for groups.

16. Where exactly is that is relation to Raleigh...
since I'm blissfully clueless when it comes to NC geography. The idea is to do it somewhere about halfway between Raleigh and where short bus lives.

Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 12:15 PM by DURHAM D
so arrogant they won't even notice.

I don't know any of you guys but I live in Durham. I usually hang out at the James Joyce or The Federal (just across the street from Saties). The Joyce is basically a working class/neighborhood townie bar and the owners are Irish and one of the owners (Fergus) is very much a Dem supporter. So, if Saties doesn't fit your groove, you can always move across the street. One caution, late in the night it sometimes fills up with Duke students but so do most of the bars in Durham.

Saties = Satisfactions

26. That sounds interesting...
sounds vaguely like Mother Egan's...the little Irish pub where we have all the local Democratic gatherings here in Austin.

How's the food at the James Joyce?

27. Food is ok - typical pub grub.
Next door The Federal has better food. Neither one has much seafood except, of course, for the obligatory salmon. Don't know how big your crowd will be but Saties can accommodate groups much easier.

then we can always wander somewhere else if the spirit moves us.
