New to Raleigh
hello all...ive been a DU'er for over a year now, and am in the middle of a move to ralegh NC from baltimore MD.

its for work, but i did have to think long and hard about leaving my great blue liberal city and state for the charms of small-town southern bush country.

ive been in and out of the area for a few months now, have met a few ppl but i really need to get out there in whatever social scene exists in raleigh.

32 yo single male, pretty active in music and arts, love politicical discussions/debates and good indy films and i love good eating as much as the next guy too.

any suggestions for a young single transplanted liberal yankee in raleigh NC?

peace and thanks

1. It's a bit of a political mix
leaning more right in Raleigh. Around the NCSU, Five Points areas it will be a little more left. The northern burbs, where I live, are heavily right.

There are a couple of Indy film theaters; the Rialto and the Colony. Not as many as one would think this being the capital.

Chapel Hill area is the most liberal area.

Good luck!

2. Welcome to the Triangle!
See http://indyweek.com/durham/2005-04-06/cover.html, and browse the rest of the site. That free weekly lefty tabloid will be your guide for TONS of cool stuff to do around here, including all of the things you mentioned in your post.

And not to worry--wait until you experience Chapel Hill/Carrboro! A true liberal's delight of a community. The local radio station broadcasts Air America, which you can get in Raleigh.

:hi:

3. Welcome to Raleighwood!
This is actually a fairly progressive city. I moved down here from Philly to go to NC State.

As far as nightlife goes, the hip spot is Glenwood South, but there are also several very cool Irish pubs around town.

Here's the site for the Wake County Democratic Party:

http://www.wakedems.org

Citysearch is a good resource for restaurants, art, etc...

P.S. If you're interested in meeting some loyal local Dems, come out to the Wake Democratic Men's Club meeting on October 10th.

I'm the treasurer of the club...

The meeting is at 6pm at the Clarion Hotel downtown on Hillsborough Street...
