National Collector's Mint is at it again, the bastards!
I just heard their latest commercial on TV, and it made me retch. They're cashing in on 9/11 with a five-year commemorative; once again, they're making the same sorry-ass claim of using silver "miraculously recovered from a bank vault found under tons of debris at Ground Zero."

I plan on posting this to NYS Attorney General Elliot Spitzer. He went after them the last time.

2. There was a precious metals depository under the WTC.

Whether these coins are made from that is unknown...and who cares anyway? That metal isn't more sacred just because it was there. And what was so miraculous about the recovery? They had to excavate the entire site, so of course they would find and uncover the vault. Anyone think the bank would have said not to bother?
Not complaining at you, BTW, but just at the whole commemorative scam.

3. Understood. There were precious metals under the WTC.
Most (*if not all*) held by banks and dealers. I recall there was an out-of-state safecracker brought in early in the recovery to open the vaults down there. So, as you say, nothing miraculous about it.

4. I agree!!!
Actually, I thought it was just annoying me and was wondering how the heck they got silver from a bank vault!

Thanks for taking action.

Sol :)

5. Check Ebay ...
I have seen several Silver Eagle coins that claim to be recovered from ground zero. Not coins made from the metal (ie coins minted long before 9/11). Anyone who pays a premium for them is a moran, bacause there is no way to authenticate such a claim.

Don't by crap medallions (they are not coins) from these shady companies. Just because they have the word mint in their name does not mean that they are in some way associated with the Mint of the United States.

Cheers
Drifter
