*** Don't Forget Tuesday's Forum on Religion and International
Human Rights ***

On Tuesday, March 15, CFI-Metro New York will sponsor a forum on
the impact of religion on human rights around the world at the
New York Academy of Sciences, 2 E. 63rd Street, 6:30 p.m.
Speakers will include Roya Hakakian, the Iranian-born author of
Journey from the Land of No: A Girlhood Caught in Revolutionary
Iran; Judith Goldstein, executive director of Humanity in
Action; and Susan Jacoby, director of our New York office and
the author of Freethinkers: A History of American Secularism.
This wide-ranging discussion will include topics ranging from
the violation of religious taboos to heighten the effect of
torture to women's rights. Since March is Women's History Month,
the threat to women's rights--from fundamentalist Christians as
well as fundamentalist Islam--will be a major topic of
discussion.
Admission $10 at the door.

CFI-Metro NY E-Bulletin is a publication of the Center for
Inquiry-Metro New York. The Center for Inquiry, an international
nonprofit organization, was established in 1976 to promote and
defend reason, science and free inquiry in all areas of human
endeavor. Through research, education, publishing and social
services, we offer a positive secularist alternative to an
ethical system based on religion and belief in the supernatural.
We are also deeply committed to upholding the American tradition
of religious liberty, coupled with absolute separation of church
and state, that guarantees the right to practice any faith or no
faith.
