Why is your state Senate Republican controlled?
Also, is Hillary safe in 2006?

1. Upstate is Republican.
Has been all my life. Much of Long Island is Republican.

We're just not stupid enough to vote for a Bush, though.

Oh, and the Democrats were in sole power in NYC so long that people got sick of the corruption. We're still a Democratic town but the party's been sent to wander in the wilderness until it repents of its ways. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and we were not immune. Not even a little. That's how we wound up with Republican mayors.

5. No, not Diebold
we don't have them. (Maybe a few places but not a lot). The reason we don't have the new machines though is because the legislature is split and they can't agree on who to give the contract to.

4. Back when I was in college about 10 years ago,
I remember one of my Poli Sci professors stated, rather matter-of-factly, that the split control of the New York state legislature was essentially agreed to and orchestrated by the leaders of the two major parties in the state.

Don't know the details. But there it is.

6. David Dinkins...
>>Oh, and the Democrats were in sole power in NYC so long that people got sick of the corruption

There was no corruption in the sense I normally think of corruption. I credit the repubs taking over to one NYC mayor. David Dinkins... during his first term he let his buddies and social responsibility run wild. Rudy got in as most said something had to be done. Rudy backed the Dem Gov Coumo and caught hell for it from the repugs. The memory of the Dinkins days still linger for many here.
