Paper Ballots, Paper Trail, e-vote Questions

Greetings from the Election Reform/2004 Forum

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=203

On this thread, we've been working on figuring out:

Which States Have Existing Law or Pending Bills for VVP Ballots or Trails
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x348377

Your state is listed as having existing law regard the use of paper.

Can anyone please point me to that Law, or any Pending Legislation for Voter Verified Paper Ballots (VVPB) or Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT)?

Do you folks have DRE's (Direct Recording Electronic), the nasty e-vote stuff? If so do they, at least provide a paper trail?

This article, by DUer GaryBeck, will help explain the important differences.

Thank You!

1. NO machines in Canada, most democracies
if my source is correct.. a post here at DU.

Americans appear to have been tricked for decades into thinking vote machines of any kind are "normal".

they are abnormal. THey seem to exist only for profit to makers, and to better hide easy theft of votes.

We have been played for fools, suckers and rubes.

Pure paper is do-able in Canada. So it is feasible for us.

No machines in sight, should be our goal.

Any complexity in the vote process, makes it easier to hide tricks. Simple makes tricks hard.

Any magician or scientist can tell you that. Complexity waltzes in many new corners where tricks can be hid.

"Canadian model, pure paper" hand counted...... should be our meme.

toss VVPT. A halfway measure. costly for machines , storage, trucking.

Only close elections are ever audited. So to steal, just make sure your boy has over three percent margin. VVPT never audits those elections. VVPT is garbage pretending to be reform.

CANADIAN MODEL, PURE PAPER, ... HAND COUNTED. our meme. cheaper, honest.

4. we don't have
any black box voting machines. Optic scanners are as high tech as we get - and I hope some city person will correct me if I'm wrong.

Where I live we still vote on paper ballots with pencils, and those ballots are counted by hand. I strongly believe that is what we should do everywhere until we can make the electronic system tamper proof, and the counting system open to the public.
