Teenager seriously injured in hit and run
This boy went to my school. He is a doll. This is heartbreaking.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police were looking Tuesday for a driver who hit a 13-year-old boy riding his bicycle and then dragged him 200 feet before fleeing.

Juan Carlos Portillo was expected to undergo plastic surgery to repair extensive damage to his left leg. He lost flesh and muscle during the wreck. His bone and nerves were exposed, leaving him in tremendous pain, KCTV5's Sandra Olivas reported.

The wreck happened at about 5:30 p.m. Monday at East Truman Road and Bennington Avenue.

Tuesday, his family urged the driver to surrender to authorities.

1. He's probably lucky to be alive.
It sounds like he's got a long road, a lot of pain, and a lot of physical therapy ahead of him. A 13 year old shouldn't have to face that. I hope they find the driver.

2. It just gets more and more horrific
He was on the sidewalk! Here is the article in today's paper:

Boy, 13, dragged 200 feet by truck VIDEOBy CHRISTINE VENDEL and LYNN FRANEY
The Kansas City Star
There’s something in front of that truck.

That’s what a 33-year-old teacher said to herself while driving home Monday evening. An approaching red Chevrolet pickup seemed to be pushing an object ahead of it in the westbound lanes of Truman Road.

Another driver thought it was a bag of trash.

“I couldn’t figure out what it was,” the teacher said.

It was a 13-year-old boy.

He told his mom not to be sad, because he was alive, she recalled.

3. I hope he doesn't have any memories of the actual incident.
That's a nightmare come to life.

4. They say he is in great sprits
Half of his foot is gone, he is facing several surgeries, his family has no insurance (Thank you, Gov Blunt:grr: ) but he is handling it all well.

They found the truck today. Yay!
