http://www.monticellotimes.com/articles/2010/03/01/news/563klobyhere.txt...Klobuchar expressed her support for nuclear power and said she is most concerned with pushing for nuclear power on a federal level rather than a state level, as that is where she said the issue of determining a long-term storage or reprocessing solution will be hammered out, though she supported repealing the moratorium on new nuclear power plants at the state level to keep pushing the issue forward. Monticello’s nuclear waste is currently stored on-site.
Though Klobuchar said she wishes she could give the local leaders an idea of what to expect in terms of nuclear waste, she said the federal government will be exploring new ways to either reprocess it, as Japan, France and other nations do, or find a different long-term storage solution.
“Nuclear power is going to be a bigger part of our energy future, and I’ve long been a supporter of nuclear,” she said, noting her work on a bi-partisan group and the “Gang of 14” in the Senate who are looking to find a moderate solution to the country’s energy issues. “Any energy bill we pass must have a major nuclear component.”
She feels a federal energy bill would help make nuclear a bigger part of the country’s energy future by setting up standards through federal legislation that would streamline the construction of new plants, along with
finding ways for energy companies to get loans so the expensive plants can be built. Klobuchar also mentioned her desire to set up a time to tour Monticello’s plant sometime in the upcoming year.
The line about getting the energy companies loans sounds just like this is just another way to transfer public money to a private enterprise. No doubt they will be low interest loans - the kind small businesses can't get these days.
