NWA layoffs coming fast and furious
They are taking the machette to the employment rolls over at NWA. No job outside the board and upper management is safe. 1400 flight attendents, 400 pilots, another 1500 or so mechanics. They can't print the pink slips fast enough.

http://www.startribune.com/stories/535/5627357.html

"Northwest Airlines Corp. will lay off 1,400 flight attendants between Oct. 31 and January 2006, the bankrupt carrier told its flight attendants on Wednesday.

The flight attendant layoffs begin with 900 furloughs on Oct. 31, the memo said, including 480 in Detroit, Northwest's largest hub, and 355 in Minneapolis, according to a memo by Northwest Vice President for Inflight Services that was provided by the Professional Flight Attendants Association.

The pilot's union said last week that 400 pilots will be laid off in coming months.

Northwest said when it filed for Chapter 11 protection last week that it would furlough more workers."

2. And why are the board and upper management jobs safe???
Where are their paycuts? Are their pensions being gutted? How many 'vice presidents' do they need, anyway? What sacrifices have they made?

The pilot and flight attendants unions may be sorry they didn't honor the mechanic's picket line.

4. Looks like the pilots and flight attendants should have joined the strike
Might as well go out standing for something than nothing at all.
